3 Days ago Youtuber and ex Big Brother contestant Sam Pepper posted a new Prank video. It shows two of his friends 'Sam (different Sam to Pepper) and Colby'. Colby is in on the Prank leaving Sam oblivious. They get kidnapped and get put into the boot of a car. They are taken somewhere else where they fake Colby being executed by being shot in the heard. Leaving his best friend Sam in bits and in a clear emotional state. After a while they reveal it was a Prank.

Watch it yourself if you wish.

I thought putting this in a thread would be good to ask some questions.

1. Can Pranks be Taken too far?

2. Is this a Prank or is it just plain mean and cruel?

3. Should it be allowed on Youtube?

4. Is it offensive to those who have been in them types of situation?

1. Can Pranks be Taken too far?
100% yes. This isn't the only example of a prank I've seen which has gone too far. I hate those videos as well where people pretend they have cheated on their SO etc, I feel so awful for the victims of them.

QUOTE
2. Is this a Prank or is it just plain mean and cruel?

In short it's incredibly and stupidly mean and cruel.

QUOTE
3. Should it be allowed on Youtube?
No way. I'm appalled it hasn't been taken down already to be honest (the reason for this is mainly due to my answer of the following question)

QUOTE
4. Is it offensive to those who have been in them types of situation?

This kind of situation must have been absolutely horrific, and for some people this may have been something to actually happen. I can't imagine the grief these people and their families must feel, and this video is mocking that, therefore I think this video is disgustingly insensitive and extremely offensive to people who have may been through similar situations. It's also distressing to watch, I found NO aspect of that video humorous in any way. Not what I would want to take away from watching a "prank" video at all!

I detest Sam Pepper. I hated him on big brother and I think he is a vile human-being. His Youtube channel should be taken down for once and for all

Sam Pepper always seems to take it too far. I remember his 'fake hand ass pinch' prank as well. Just no. :/

1. Absolutely, as proven both here and by the Australian radio/Royal family prank from a couple of years back.

2. Plain cruel

3. Hmm. People have a choice of whether they want to watch it or not and I'm against censorship but I'm not answering #4 because I think Lotti has already provided a great answer and I think it applies here as well.

I don't understand why he'd think that is entertainment? Or something that can be seen as a light-hearted prank?

it's not exactly a 'prank' is it? pranks are meant to be funny. haven't watched the vid but this is taking it too far (I thought Sam Pepper got hated off making YouTube vids for his alleged sexual harassment anyway? clearly not)

These 'prank' videos are usually fake aren't they? Not that that's a defence.

In what way is this supposed to be entertaining or amusing? It's just horrible to watch.

Yes practical jokes can go too far (like the time one of the people from halls was away and we got a multi-pack of balloons and blew them up under the door until the room was filled with balloons) and something like this is not only stupid but potentially quite dangerous - you do NOT know how people may react under such stress and trauma. This Sam Pepper is either a complete MORON or this was a set-up, but I still think it is in poor taste really for the point you bring up in (4).

I didn't know he was even still a thing, I thought he got kicked off of YouTube after his last big 'scandal' (if you call rape allegations anything as trivial as a 'scandal').

Part of me isn't convinced this is actually real and all three weren't in on it, if it IS, then, yeah it presents the worst of what social media can do to us and if this person is endorsing this sort of thing then he should be banned from Youtube no question. Not only is there a clear case of kidnapping here but also mental trauma - I doubt the guy being pranked is going to forget that period of time where he thought he was really being kidnapped and his best friend killed in front of his eyes any time soon.

I'm amazed he's even still uploading videos, disgusting human being who shouldn't be given one ounce of attention. I thought after what happened before he would be less controversial with his content, but that was so horrible to watch. I felt physically sick watching that poor guy. Why would his friend even agree to doing it though? and if he didn't realise just how horrible it was going to be for the guy being pranked, surely he would have stopped it? Wasn't in the least bit amusing, even if it was a prank the kidnapping was pretty extreme, it could still have an affect on him mentally etc, even his friendship with the guy who was fake-killed could be affected. I mean if that was me being 'pranked' I wouldn't be so quick to laugh it off and I couldn't look at my friend the same way again knowing that I thought they'd been killed or they'd let me believe that they were. So yea, going to far is a bit of an understatement here, twisted idea of humour than Sam Pepper has, really shouldn't be encouraged, especially when his videos are being shared on such a huge platform that reaches younger kids too.
