Chelsea really are the gift that keeps on giving right now. laugh.gif

Tonight, another defeat. John Terry being substituted before the hour and Eden Hazard waving the white flag and running off down the tunnel.

Every week I think they'll turn it around but now it's the week before Christmas and they're still only one point above the relegation places. Even below Newcastle!

Could the unthinkable happen!?

Love this thread laugh.gif

What's interesting to note is that they haven't won back to back league matches in 20 attempts now so even if they nick the odd win they don't look like they'll go on a run. Very much relegation form!

Martin Tyler summed them up rather well at one pony this evening when he said it look as if the Chelsea team was made of of last season's team's less talented twin brothers. They showed some sign of life in the second half (after going 2-0 down), but nowhere near enough. Their performance after going behind against Bournemouth last weekend was terrible. They played like a team resigned to defeat, i.e. just like a team near the bottom of the table.

The average number of points scored by the team finishing fourth is recent seasons is around 75, with 68 the lowest. Chelsea's maximum is now 81.

This is uncharted territory for Mourinho. He has never had to pick up a struggling team. So far, he doesn't seem to be able to handle this new experience.

They need to do something special to even finish Top 4. Like a 15 game unbeaten run (and win 11-12 of those!). On the plus side for them their defence looks more steady, but what has happened to their attacking play? It's non-existent.

Funny though. There's gonna be a real clamour for Pep in the summer.

Chelsea wont get relegated but they wont get top 4/Thursday nights either. they're looking at 12th - 17th realistically.

Leicester are now TWENTY points ahead of Chelsea after tonight's match so Chelsea have no chance of finishing above the foxes this season.

Worth remembering that their performances dropped off in the second half of last season. Obviously to the same extent as this season but still noticeable.

Remarkable how every player (bar William) seems a pale imitation of last year. Or maybe it's just the Caniero curse! wink.gif

Do people think Mourinho will still be in charge for Saturday's game against Sunderland as there has a lot of speculation about his future today and the Chelsea board have held emergency talks.

It would seem strange to fire him now and I honestly can't see anything changing if they do. There's definitely something deep down problematic with the club this season.

Let's all hope Jose wasn't the problem and Hiddink has the same effect as Remi Garde at Villa... wink.gif

Realistically, you can see a lot of Chelsea players picking up now.

I really hope not. If Chelsea overnight becomes a winning machine again then if I was a fan, or the head honcho, i'd be f***ing furious. If they've been half-arsing it to get Jose out then I'd be handing them their P45's and demanding every penny paid to them this year back. They are paid utterly outrageous sums of money every week to do one job. It's not exactly a difficult job, John Terry doesn't have a single functioning brain cell ffs!

It would be very damaging to their reputation I think if that was the case.

I'm surprised he lasted this long tbh! Strange to sack him now, ok they're not doing great in the league but if it was going to happen I thought it would have a couple of weeks ago. The problem is they're only going to appoint someone now the steady the ship, and the list of managers in uninspiring to say the least.

Interesting to see if they go for Simeone now, or wait till the summer.

As for the players, well I think they're just devoid of confidence. I think it will take more than a new manager to bump Chelsea up the arse again. Let's not forget that post Mourinho they've never really ever been that close to the title Ancelotti aside, despite having a really good squad.

Rumous going round that Fabregas and Hazard were the ones that got him the sack.

That might be true. Fabregas had an interview with Sky Sports where he just sat back while Thierry Henry was ripping into Chelsea.

The comfortable win today is going to add fuel to the fire that Joss was ousted by player-power...

We'll find out if the win against Sunderland was the turn around or whether they'll go back to performing woefully on Boxing day laugh.gif

I know this is not connected to real life but I just finished a season playing as Manchester United on Career Mode on FIFA and there the unthinkable happened......... Chelsea got relegated finishing rock bottom in 20th place. Even though it's a video game I was still shocked and then I remembered this thread which made me giggle laugh.gif

If this happened for real it would eclipse everything else that could possibly happen in a season laugh.gif
