Early in 2014, a virtually unknown singer was a featured vocalist on a single entering the charts at Number One.

Impressive in it's own right, but it's been done before, several times.

What hasn't happened before, is that that singer, Jess Glynne, has been on every Top 75 singles chart since, that makes 100 consecutive weeks since her début.

Only a very few artists have had 100 straight weeks on the chart, but none following on from their very first appearance

RIHANNA - Run of 197 consecutive weeks from week ending 05/09/2009
SHADOWS - Run of 187 consecutive weeks from week ending 02/05/1959
DAVID GUETTA - Run of 148 consecutive weeks from week ending 06/03/2010
ELVIS PRESLEY - Run of 145 consecutive weeks from week ending 23/07/1960
CLIFF RICHARD - Run of 125 consecutive weeks from week ending 02/05/1959
CALVIN HARRIS - Run of 123 consecutive weeks from week ending 18/06/2011
KATY PERRY - Run of 120 consecutive weeks from week ending 26/06/2010
BEATLES - Run of 105 consecutive weeks from week ending 13/10/1962
PHARRELL - Run of 103 consecutive weeks from week ending 20/04/2013
BRUNO MARS - Run of 100 consecutive weeks from week ending 29/05/2010
JESS GLYNNE - Run of 100 consecutive weeks from week ending 01/02/2014

I didn't find this by originally looking for Jess Glynne facts, I was wondering how may consecutive charts Ed Sheeran had been on. This is Ed's 90th, which also puts him behind

SHADOWS - Run of 99 consecutive weeks from week ending 01/12/1962
RIHANNA - Run of 98 consecutive weeks from week ending 19/05/2007
LADY GAGA - Run of 95 consecutive weeks from week ending 10/01/2009
ELLIE GOULDING - Run of 92 consecutive weeks from week ending 06/10/2012
EMELI SANDÉ - Run of 91 consecutive weeks from week ending 20/08/2011

And one other thing about Ms Glynne's run, she hasn't needed the chart to be a Top 75 to achieve this, she has spent 100 weeks inside the Top 50, her "worst week" being w/e 22/11/14 when her only entry was "Rather Be" at number 48.

There is the possibility of longer runs when Top 100 charts are taken into account, but I haven't added all the 76-100 positions to my database yet, so I've kept to the Top 75 to be consistent

(and no, I haven't forgotten the Virtual Book of Hit Singles, this year has been very heavy with other things and it has had to give second best, but data is still being collected and the project will resume at some point!)

Great Stat that fchd, I guess in the age of streaming and songs staying around in the chart a bit longer this has helped but impressive nonetheless.

Partly down to the fact her voice is perfect for radio so everything she releases has airplay longevity. But well done wub.gif

Welcome back fchd! Feels like ages since you last visited us here, I meant to ask you a while ago if the Virtual Book of Hit Singles was carrying on and you hadn't even been online for weeks at the time.

This is a very impressive statistic, especially with the stipulation of her never being outside the top 50 so her run is at least ostensibly comparable to the time before the chart was expanded to a top 75 (though of course it's still not as much of a big deal as that would have been, since her songs have been able to chart for longer due to the greater longevity provided by downloads and streaming).

As a Christmas present, I've uploaded the current state of play of the Virtual Book of Hit Singles as 4 pdfs

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Some of it is a bit rough and ready, and there is still work to go back and sort out from 2015 while it was somewhat "dormant" - dates of death, million sellers etc. It is still only Top 75 at this point, my capturing of the Top 100 has now got back to the start of 2010 so there's still some way to go before I have the full set of 76-100 to add in.
