Louisa Johnson remains at number one!
As she again struggles in the official chart and will need to face the merciless press having a field day over her being the first X Factor winner to miss number one, poor young 17 year-old Louisa Johnson might find small solace in that she remains at number one on my personal chart with Forever Young. She's very unlikely to be reading this, but it's the thought that counts. Another piece of consolation is that she is most successful of the two people born in 1998 to have graced the chart this year. Actually, scratch that, because to say the other one "graced" the chart is highly inappropriate. He inflicted himself on the chart with his despicable desire to be watched and rather unfortunate incapacity to remain silent. Anyway, Foxes remains at #2 with If You Leave Me Now. Could it become the most successful song from Foxes's current era? Perhaps, perhaps not. Body Talk is steadily climbing back up the chart to make it harder for its current status at that to be broken. Coming Home goes back up to #3, further cementing the irony of its title with its constant confusion as to in which direction it wants to go in this chart. Little Mix and Jason Derulo's Secret Love Song falls back a place to #4. Expect it to hold steady as it starts gaining traction on the official chart. Sweet Lovin' goes back up two places to #5. Love Me Like You goes down a place to #6, and Lush Life also goes down a place, to #7. Love Me Or Leave Me goes back up a place to #8, Hello jumps 6 places to return to the top 10 at #9 and The Girl Is Mine falls 2 places to #10. Other notable tracks There is very little new blood in the chart this week, with only two new entries, both by Coldplay's new album A Head Full Of Dreams. Hymn For The Weekend is at #18 and Everglow is at #58. Let's take a moment for poor Simon & Garfunkel, who have just seen their 1970 masterpiece Bridge Over Troubled Water brutally murdered by The NHS Choir without a penny in royalties to ease the pain. As small consolation, that masterpiece re-enters to peak a new peak of #33. Years & Years return to #91 with Real, while Take Shelter is this week's biggest climber, soaring 44 places to #55. As it's Christmas, we have a good number of Christmas classics in the chart: Fairytale Of New York moves down two places to #12, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday climbs six places to #28, Merry Christmas Everyone climbs 10 places to #53, Driving Home For Christmas soars 32 places to #54, Last Christmas jumps 26 places to #56, All I Want For Christmas Is You falls 9 places to #68, and Merry Xmas Everybody climbs 14 places to #69. While I will need to verify this, Cast A Spell has probably done a chart first by being the biggest faller for two consecutive weeks, this week dropping 34 places to #77. Unless all the Christmas songs drop out (and that it obviously doesn't drop out itself), it is very unlikely to be the biggest faller for a third week running. Still, its extremely rapid fall down the chart is quite impressive. |
