The biggest and most ironic for me is 'Somebody That I Used to Know'. Odd because it's the sort of thing radio would lap up for years.

I think Somebody That I Used To Know still gets played but you're right with its sales it should be more remembered.

I don't know if Blurred Lines is necessarily forgotten, but I feel the general perception these days is that it was a mistake that should never have happened. So I think it won't be fondly remembered to say the least.

First off, OMG by Usher featuring will.i.am. A massive hit only 6 years ago, but hardly anyone remembers it.

Also, for a song which was everywhere last Summer, Are You With Me? is one I never hear anymore.

(there's probably a few more examples but some may be more of a case of they're not as remembered as I wish they'd be).

Beautiful Girls still invades my life far too regularly.

But there are so many of these because no one's going to play tons of hits, even radio as songs from 1 to 10 years ago aren't yet old enough to be played as classics yet too old to be on new stations.
And there are so many things from Gotye's time that were just as big but are probably played even less these days, Payphone, Feel The Love, Black Heart, Let Me Love You, Wings, anything by Calvin Harris or Flo Rida from that year. 2012 is just currently right at the centre of that period where virtually everything (bar maybe Call Me Maybe/We Are Young or tracks that have other reasons for being noticed) is getting minimal attention. That'll pick up in years to come.

2010 is a big year for forgotten hits I think. 'Fireflies', 'Love the Way You Lie' and 'Airplanes' are nowhere near as remembered as I thought they'd be at the time (and 'OMG' which was already mentioned)

also 'Wavin Flag' anybody?? That was somehow the bigger of the two competing world cup anthems in the UK chart but Shakira's 'Waka Waka' has since overshadowed it [and now it's probably outsold it too from trickle sales]

Those four songs Dan are a large part of what made 2010 such a great year. Wavin' Flag especially, it's a good one for this thread, but it's a shame. Didn't really do anything in 2014 I seem to remember although I'm sure it being a South American Cup would have helped Waka Waka a little bit more.

I don't think so. I still hear all the songs you mentioned quite a bit, from my experience airplay for songs that were hits never 'picks up' unless it's within a nostalgia/retro context and 2012 was a shit year for pop music.

I Believe by Frankie Laine lol
It seems only chart stat loons have ever heard of it, and I know it's old but there's still songs as old if not older that are much better remembered in my XP.

Looking at recent #01's, I'd say that these are forgotten / will be forgotten pretty quickly:

Iyaz - Replay
Nero - Promises
Wretch 32 - Don't Go
Example - Stay Awake
Cover Drive - Twilight
Robbie Williams - Candy
Bingo Players - Get Up (Rattle)
Storm Queen - Look Right Through
DVBBS & Borgeous - Tsunami (Jump)
Aloe Blacc - The Man
SecondCity - I Wanna Feel
Take That - These Days

The song must have been somewhat remembered since its release as Robson & Jerome took a cover of it to #1 in the 1990s. No surprise barely anyone knows it now as it's over 60 years old kink.gif
