Just a fun little imaginative game for you All. Eras - that would have made The Girls more successful.
I mean it's fair to say they were never more successful as when they released What About Us. What should they have done to capitalise in that??

If I was ever their manager which I'm not kink.gif
This would be all of the album eras.

Chasing Lights Era

01 Up
02 If This Is Love
03 Issues
- Chasing Lights Album Release -
04 Just Can't Get Enough
05 Chasing Lights

Wordshaker Era

01 One Shot
02 Ego
- Wordshaker Album Release -
03 Lose Control
04 Here Standing
05 Open Up

Headlines Era

01 Higher
- Headlines Album Release -
02 Missing You
03 Puppet

On Your Radar Era

01 All Fired Up
- On Your Radar Album Release -
02 Faster
03 The Way You Watch Me
04 My Heart Takes Over
05 Notorious
- On Your Radar Album Repackage -
06 Get Ready Get Set
07 Do What You Want With Me (Feat. Jason Derulo)

Living For The Weekend Era

01 What About Us
- Living For The Weekend Album Release -
02 Disco Love
03 Not Giving Up
04 30 Days
05 Lease My Love
- Living For The Weekend Album Repackage - scrap the GH & and add on 808, what are you waiting for
06 808
07 What Are You Waiting For
08 Leave A Light On

I actually believe all this would actually be possible -

1 - If they hadn't sacked Jane
2 - Released their strongest songs first
3 - released actual single material singles.

Okay, if it were me, and it should be. This is how i would have done it.

Chasing Lights
If This Is Love
Up (Solely for the reason that I think it's more important for a second single of a new girlband to keep them relevant straight away)
Issues
Album
Work
Chasing Lights
(I would have just left JCGE as a lone song, to go on their greatest hits)

Wordshaker
Ego
Lose Control
Album
Forever Is Over

Headlines
Higher
Album
Missing You

One Your Radar
All Fired Up
Notorious
Album
Last Call
Faster

Living For The Weekend (which is a shitty name I would never have allowed, and I would have called it 'Eyes Wide Open' or '5 Sats and a baby' or some shit)
What About Us
Disco Love
Album
Not Giving Up
Lease My Love

Finest Selection (This should have been called Living For the Weekend)
808
Album
Walking Through The Desert

'5 Sats and a baby' or some shit

laugh.gif Living For The Weekend really was an awful and embarrassingly generic name.

I thought everything was fine up until On Your Radar...

On Your Radar
All Fired Up
Notorious/Album
My Heart Takes Over
Get Ready, Get Set
30 Days/Re-Release
Faster or White Lies

Living For The Weekend
What About Us
Disco Love/Album
Not Giving Up (I wanted to make this pre-album as well as I think it would've gone to #1 if it was but I think three pre-album singles is too many)
Leave A Light On

Finest Selection
What Are You Waiting For? or 808

Living For The Weekend sound corny as hell, plus it's too long of a title. I hate mentioning it when it takes me 10 min to type.

In hindsight, I do think the Greatest Hits was a bit of a mistake. I think a new album would've worked out better for them. That's what I was thinking initially but all the GH hype on this forum had me convinced that it was a good idea.

Maybe yeah. The issue was that after LFTW so much momentum had been knocked out of them, it was hard to see any new material cutting the mustard in terms of radio support etc, so likely to flop. Having said that if it had been hella rad, and we'd had some Higher/Ego style pop anthem, I think they could have done it.

TBH though, the lack of success of their Greatest Hits still shocks me. They surely must have had a lot of fringe fans who only liked their singles for them to get as many top 10s and silver certs as they did, so at the time I was certain a GH package would be just the thing to make people realise what an underrated gem they are. Maybe it was the shitty name and artwork, or the fact that WAYWF is hardly them at their best, and 808, or even WTTD would have been better promo songs for it, but idk.

But a new album with 808 as the lead i could have seen doing well, especially that version with Angel Haze, I really liked that. Maybe leaving WAYWF as an album gem.

I did too. I remember it got such a great start with pre-orders. I think it would've been a hit had it been released about two years earlier when dancepop wasn't all the way out and they still had radio support.

Chasing Lights Era

01. If This Is Love
02. Up
*Album Release*
03. Issues
04. Just Can't Get Enough
05. Work

Everything with this era was done right, although I think they should have released 'Work' a little sooner, then it would have stood more of a chance.

Wordshaker Era

01. Ego
*Album Release*
02. Forever Is Over
03. Lose Control
04. Here Standing or Open Up

I honestly think that swapping 'FIO' with 'Ego' would have made a big difference, as 'Ego' captures the sound and style of the album better and was the more popular song anyway despite it's lower peak, if released first then it would have definitely went top 5. 'FIO' kinda alienated potential album buyers, coz people thought that the whole album would sound Americanized and despite a decent #2 peak, it fell down pretty quick. If 'Ego' was released first then the album would or could have done a whole lot better as it didn't stray too far away from their popular sound and could have built up decent opening album sales.

Then release 'Forever Is Over' as the follow up single and would have been a better time to show a different side to the album and created more hype and helped increase sales for the album and then there would have been more singles. Okay I know not everybody likes this song, but it was gonna be released no matter what as it had both Kelly Clarkson and Pink's names attached to it and can see why their management team thought that this would be a sure fire winner, and they're right but not as the lead single, it would have worked better as a follow up.

'Lose Control' would have been the perfect choice for the 3rd single, release it in early 2010 and it's inclusion on the St Trinian's 2 soundtrack already created hype and maybe use that similar style music video that would have definitely racked up more album sales and even gave them another top 10 hit. Honestly if they ended the era on 'LC' then I would have been happy and the whole era wouldn't have felt like a waste.

But if they were gonna go for another single which would have been a possibility as they released 5 from 'CL', then my choices would have been either the ballad 'Here Standing' which is a nice track and again shows another side to the album and the previous ballad 'Issues' from the last album did really well and this would have been nice to slow things down a bit after 3 uptempo bangers. Then there's 'Open Up' which again could have worked, as I feel that this gets overlooked quite often, and if this was released, then it would have come as a surprise and become another potential hit. I easily think they could have managed at least 3 or 4 top 10 singles from this album.

Headlines Era

01. Higher
02. Missing You
*Album Release*
03. Puppet

I do think that the EP release was a smart move on their part as it did provide some brand new tracks that were awesome, especially the first 2 singles, but again released in the wrong order. 'Higher' should have been first as it was the better song and would have generated much more hype than 'MY' and could have been their first potential #1 hit in the summer or at least a better front runner, as it captures that feel much more instead of coming out in September and settling for a low top 10 position.

'Missing You' would have worked better if released in late summer, as it does show a more mature side to them and again shows a different side to the album. Then for late 2010 they could have brought out 'Puppet' along with a kick ass music video and ended that year with a bang and would have been the perfect ending to yet another fantastic era.

Imagine 2010 if they'd brought out these 'Lose Control', 'Here Standing', 'Higher', 'Missing You' & 'Puppet'. 5 Saturdays singles in one year, that would have been the best year ever.

On Your Radar era

01. Notorious
02. All Fired Up
*Album Release*
03. Get Ready Get Set
04. My Heart Takes Over

After spending much time with this decision, yes I did think that 'Notorious' was definitely the right choice for the lead single. Okay it was a very polarizing choice and it didn't quite receive the success it should have, but it is one of their best singles and showed a more interesting sound for them and maybe if it was given more time to grow on people, then it could have stood more of a chance (maybe).

'All Fired Up', a 100% yes that this was the right way to go as the 2nd/lead single for the album, as it did prove more popular and gained much more exposure and airplay and becoming another successful hit for them.

But I don't think releasing 'MHTO' as the 3rd single was a very good idea, as I felt it was way too soon to release a ballad, especially after the disappointing album sales. I think releasing another club banger 'Get Ready Get Set' would have been the better choice and would have probably been a bigger hit. And if that went top 10, then it would have definitely generated more interest in the album as that or even 'Faster' both would have been far more suitable choices, as they are both amazing standouts on the album and would have gained more exposure and airplay.

Release 'My Heart Takes Over' in early 2012 in the new year maybe. Okay it may not have done any better chart or sales wise, but coming after 3 upbeat dance tracks, this would have been a welcome change and end the era on a much better note. Then they could have released '30 Days' following this as a stop gap for the next album.

Living For The Weekend Era

01. 30 Days
02. What About Us (Ft Sean Paul)
03. Not Giving Up
*Album Release*
04. Disco Love
05. Leave A Light On

Yes keep '30 Days' as the taster single back in 2012 as it did give them another top 10 hit and honestly it's not one of my faves from them, it's still a pretty decent track and was an indication that something much better was coming from them and that was the brilliant 'What About Us' which put them back on the map and made them more popular again, building just the right amount of hype and becoming their first #1 and made everybody excited as to what's to come from the new album.

Then unfortunately they released the awful 'Gentleman' which ruined all momentum and credibility that they had built up with 'WAU'. If they'd released the much more better and popular fan favourite track 'Not Giving Up' as the follow up, then honestly things would have been much different for them, instead of releasing it last where by that time the era was pretty much dead. I think that this would have been far more successful as the follow up to their #1 smas h and would have probably given them another top 10 hit. Timing was everything with this and if more effort was put into it instead of it being chucked out months later just because the fans like it. It was really shame how this release was handled as it had so much potential.

Yes 'Disco Love' was yet another perfect single choice and imagine if this followed 'NGU' instead of the crappy 'Gentleman'. Then for the final single maybe 'Leave A Light On' which again was another decent standout on the album, but seeing it was a 5th single, then it would have performed about the same as 'NGU' release.

Finest Selection; The Greatest Hits

01. 808
*Album Release'
02. What You Waiting For

Come on what were they thinking releasing 'WYWF' as the lead single, when they had '808' just sitting there waiting to be released, I honestly think that '808' would have had a much better chance chartwise and would have at least went top 20, and then maybe the album could have had a better run and then they could have released 'WYWF' as the 2nd single, which would have probably performed the same as it did chartwise, but could have maybe kept the album in the charts a little longer maybe.

Imagine if the Greatest Hits album looked like this =

1. What About Us
2. Higher
3. Ego
4. All Fired Up
5. 808
6. Up
7. Lose Control
8. Forever Is Over
9. Issues
10. Disco Love
11. Notorious
12. Puppet
13. Missing You
14. Not Giving Up
15. Get Ready Get Set
16. Work
17. What You Waiting For
18. If This Is Love
19. Walking Through The Desert
20. Here Standing
21. My Heart Takes Over
22. Just Canít Get Enough

I left off '30 Days' & 'Leave A Light On' as 24 would have probably been far too many, but honestly this could have worked just as well, and anyway those 2 are far from their best anyway. I did think off removing 'JCGE', but that was one of their biggest hits and not a bad song to be honest and was a good ending to the album in my opinion.

Perfect.

I maybe would have just went 'What About Us' followed by 'Not Giving Up' then album release followed by 'Disco Love' and ending the album campaign on 'Leave A Light On'.

Yeah I agree with Not Giving Up as the lead in for the Album. It would have done much better than it did. Disco Love undeniably is a fantastic track and would have left selling the Album, but only like these last two fictional albums, had they left Gentleman as an Album track. Kudos to them trying something different but as I've stated again and again, straight after their biggest hit ever was not the time to experiment.

I absolutely agree with you that Ego should have been the single before the album. Forever Is Over is easily my favourite of their singles if not my overall favourite of theirs but releasing Wordshaker on the back of it wasn't the best. FIO then Ego then album would have worked just as well me thinks.

ok then ~

~ 'Chasing Lights' era was executed perfectly as it was

~ Wordshaker: 'Ego' was the best pick for lead single, then Forever Is Over could be the post-album single idk

~ Headlines- 'Higher' is the much stronger single, but I think Missing You might've struggled in Q4 so having Higher be the post-album single wasn't a bad choice, the era turned out alright anyway so

~ Notorious/AFU were good choices to lead, but On Your Radar should've ideally been released after AFU as opposed to Q4. Post-album I don't know, is there anything 'single-worthy' on the record?

~ LFTW: '30 Days' to keep their name out there, and 'What About Us' in early 13 were the right choices, with then 'Disco Love' to lead the album. Again I'm not sure about post-album- maybe just throw 'Gentleman' out there with a new version (feat. some rapper) to help it. Avoid 'Not Giving Up', it's a subpar All Fired Up and would've killed off their airplay (as it did in real life)

~ GH/Finest Selection: record something that isn't a B-rate version of a Icona Pop/Neon Jungle track, maybe something with a house music influence?

You're welcome :3

Chasing Lights
01. If This Is Love
02. Up
03. Issues
(album release)
04. Just Can't Get Enough
05. Work
06. Chasing Lights

I'd have pretty much left this era as it was. I don't really like ITIL but I really think this era was done very well, gave the girls a large amount of success and exposure. I'd have possibly released "Chasing Lights" after Work, but that's it. Oh, and not release Work the week Michael Jackson died either.

Wordshaker
01. Ego
(album release)
02. Forever Is Over
03. Here Standing
04. One Shot / Open Up

Releasing Ego as the lead single is obviously the right thing to do. I'd then release Forever Is Over second, even though it's utter trash and hurts my ears, as for all it's awful it does show a different side to the band, and did chart high for the girls when they released it. Following this, Here Standing would show another side to the album again as it's a stunning ballad. Then either release One Shot / Open Up (or both).

Headlines
01. Higher (ft Flo Rida)
(album release)
02. Missing You

I'd pretty much leave this as it was, except make Higher the lead single and Missing You the second. Also rename the EP 'I hope you choke on some really hot coffee' just for the LOLs.

On Your Radar
01. All Fired Up
02. Notorious
(album release)
03. Faster
04. Get Ready, Get Set

No ballads this era, too many club bangers present. Maybe swap the order of the last two singles I picked but it doesn't matter too much. Also if The Sats were desperate to release "30 Days" (and lets be honest you'd have to be desperate to release that monstrosity) they should have stuck it on a re-released version of this album.

Living For The Weekend
01. What About Us
02. Not Giving Up
(album release)
03. Disco Love
04. Leave A Light On

As others have said, this album title is atrocious. They should have named it "Mollie King & four others" so the public could start getting ready for Mollie's upcoming solo album. What About Us obviously as the lead single for that #1 hit, followed by Not Giving Up and then the album. Disco Love following that and finally Leave A Light On.

Then a new album instead of Greatest Hits because Gentleman wouldn't have destroyed their career and they wouldn't need to release a Greatest Hits.

Forever Is Over might have charted high but it doesn't say much when up until that point it was the lowest sales ever for a #2 Single.
