What do you think? Do you believe they are able to produce such a smartphone for such a terribly low price? Are you going to be getting it?

I think I might try if they are available outside of India :')

£2.60!!!???!!!

QUOTE
An Indian electronics company has launched a smartphone that only costs 251 rupees - or around £2.60.

The Freedom 251, manufactured by Ringing Bells, launches on 18 February and will bring a "revolution to the industry," a company spokeswoman told AFP.

Considering it costs about as much as a cup of coffee, the 251 boasts some fairly decent specs - it runs the Android Lollipop 5.1 operating system, and is powered by a 1.3 GHz quadcore processor.

It also has a 4-inch screen, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory (expandable to 32 GB) and a 3.2 megapixel front camera.

Freedom 251 owners will have access to all the apps on the Google Play Store, although some of them might push the phone to its limits.

That's blatant copying of a lot of apple icons there so if it does look like that I'd expect Apple to sue for so much money that it won't be £2.60 for long

of course it's better to just get an incredibly overrated phone which cost no more than 50 USD to produce for 600 USD... to then change it for a newer version 7 months later

at least it'll be pretty

The manufacture of which involved low wages, long hours shitty work environments for people who live don't have the fortune to live in the Netherlands/Belgium/wherever.

With it being only £2.60 of course it's going to be shit. It could be pretty useful as a temporary replacement for a short period of time though.

and, if this is being sold for £2.60, think of the wages and work environments for those involved making these...

I don't think Tim was trying to say the phone isn't good enough because of how it looks tbh, just making a comment of his first thoughts. He's right though, it does look quite basic or whatever (kind of like a simpler version of an iphone) but what do you expect at that price and if it works then that's incredible and such a great thing for those less fortunate etc. If it does what it's needed to do then the way it looks doesn't matter, maybe they will develop a range of 5p phone cases to go with it to make it just that little bit more attractive wink.gif

The retail price doesn't tell us anything about the working conditions, whereas those of the manufacturing of the iPhone are WELL DOCUMENTED.

Exactly, but they could be better. So Froot's point really isn't valid at all/makes no sense.

The working conditions are very likely to be poor. The money to manufacture the phones aren't going to come from thin air.
