so, i was listening to the radio earlier and the petshop boys song, "it's a sin" came on.

i'm not sure about you, but for me, that song is memorable just by it's intro. you hear the introduction and you know what it is.

and it got me thinking.. their's a lot of songs with memorable intros. those songs where you listen to the intro and think, yes... i know what this is!. (before they've even started singing!)

so let's use this thread to share some we think are memorable intros

AC/DC- thunderstruck

brian adams- summer of 69

tiny tempah- pass out

michael jackson- black or white

can you think of any to go here

It's the classic rock anthems like 'Livin' on a Prayer', 'Sweet Child O' Mine', 'Don't Stop Believin'' and, as mentioned, 'Summer of '69' that are usually the most instantly recognisable and the most generally regarded as iconic intros. Of course, any song that is one of my all time faves are ones I can depict from the very first few seconds, so any of them I'd regard as memorable.

Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
David Bowie - Let's Dance
New Order - True Faith
Journey - Don't Stop Believing
Years & Years - King
Elton John - I'm Still Standing
Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
Tears For Fears - Shout
Queen - We Will Rock You
A-Ha - Take On Me
ABBA - Dancing Queen
George Michael - Careless Whisper

(Using the 1 song per artist rule)

This list is only a short one, and it doesn't include those songs that I recognise quickly enough to mute the radio before they really get going (Watch Me, Gangnam Style, Gentleman, I'm An Albatraoz, Ato, Anaconda, etc.) I think I can recognise any song I've heard recently within the first few seconds.

Ok, I enjoy both of these songs, especially 21 Pilots ( <3 ). But, what is exactly memorable about the intros? Are you just referring to the start up the melody or?
