Out first is Confessions album track 'I Love New York'. The tour gives it an extra edge with the addition of electric guitars, drumkits, swearing and political statements, all of which emphasises the "fuck you attitude" of the song for, as Madonna explains at the end, New York is a state of mind. However, that's not enough to escape the fact that, for most, this is one of the weaker tracks on the album, so its placing on this survivor comes to little surprise. I agree it is the least good performance from the tour - I'm particularly not a fan of the attempt to 'rock out' at the end where she's going mad with the guitar; it all just comes across rather silly - but overall I don't mind it (helps that I have a soft spot for the album version). Leave 'Paradise' alone! That's in my Top 5 Confessions Tour moments.
 'Get Together' for me. Don't get me wrong, it's still good - I love seeing Madonna smiling and clapping and skipping along the stage - but there's nothing else particularly memorable about the performance for me and I feel like the song doesn't translate as well live as the other songs from the album. |
