Welcome to the results thread for my 80s Pointless challenge. I'll be revealing the answers one by one over the course of today and then the final scores.

Thanks to all who entered.

Rules: As always the point of Pointless is to guess the LEAST popular answer - with ZERO points up for grabs for anyone giving a unique correct answer. ALL ANSWERS MUST REFER TO FILMS RELEASED IN THE UK BETWEEN 1980 AND 1989 AND MY DECISION IS FINAL!!!

Can you name...?
1. A historical figure Bill and Ted takes back to San Dimas for their book report.
2. Anybody who performed a cameo in Ray Parker Jr's video for Ghostbusters.
3. A movie from a George Lucas franchise.
4. A song from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
5. A non-animated Walt Disney motion picture.
6. An actor from the Breakfast Club.
7. Any member of the Cobra Kais in The first Karate Kid film (1984)
8. A reference made to 1980s culture by Marty McFly in Back to the Future which a 1950s character doesn't get.
9. Any film written by John Hughes.
10. Any film featuring at least two members of the Brat Pack in its cast list.*

** - Wikipedia limits this Brat Pack to a core of: Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy

PLAYERS
1. HarryEzra
2. Regina
3. SamJudd
4. Chez Wombat
5. Jimmy Jam
6. Ultraviolence1989
7. Iz
8. Jonjo
9. Alex!
10. Josh
11. princess_lotti
12. Joe
13. J▲hq
14. Mack

The answer to the first question is coming right up.

1. Name a historical figure Bill and Ted takes back to San Dimas for their history report.

POINTLESS - Napoleon Bonaparte (Jonjo)
POINTLESS - Joan of Arc (Joe)
POINTLESS - Ludwig van Beethoven (J?hq)
1 - Abraham Lincoln (Regina,Chez Wombat)
2 - Genghis Kahn (HarryEzra,Jimmy Jam,princess_lotti)
5 - Socrates (SamJudd,Ultraviolence1989,Iz,Alex!,Josh,mack)

The bodacious Greek philosopher Socrates Johnson* was surprisingly popular here. There was a generally good response here with three pointless answers and no wrong uns. Nobody fancied Billy the Kid or Sigmund Freud and nobody fell into the trap of naming the English princesses who do come back to San Dimas, but only after the report has been done. Bill and Ted 3 will be with us soon - will it be any good?

* - This is my favourite bit in the film, when Bill and Ted try to dupe Bill's Mum into thinking the historical figures are regular people by giving them rubbish alter egos such as Herman the Kid, Socrates Johnson, Dennis Frood, Maxine of Arc, Dave Beefoven and 'Bob' Ghenghis Khan.

I really need to see 'Bill & Ted'. I think it'd be right up my street and I never got around to watching it. Yay for a pointless, and from the choices I was trying to choose from, I woulda been pointless as I was gonna go for Billy The Kid. So yay at the strong start. (I doubt it'll continue much though laugh.gif)

2. Name anybody who performed a cameo in Ray Parker Jr's video for Ghostbusters.

POINTLESS - Chevy Chase (Mack)
POINTLESS - Irene Cara (Ultraviolence1989)
POINTLESS - George Wendt (Alex!)
POINTLESS - Peter Falk (Josh)
1 - Jeffrey Tambor (Regina,Jimmy Jam)
1 - Teri Garr (HarryEzra,Iz)
2 - Carly Simon (Chez Wombat,Joe,J?hq)
2 - Al Franken (SamJudd,Jonjo,princess_lotti)

Ray Parker Jr's theme to Ghostbusters was pretty iconic (and ripped off from Huey Lewis if you believe him or his lawyer) and the video was too. Not only did the four Ghostbusters strut their stuff towards the end of the video, a host of stars of the time popped up shouting 'Ghostbusters' throughout. In terms of scoring, it seems nobody fancied John Candy, Danny DeVito, Ollie E Brown or Melissa Gilbert, most going for either Buzzjack Retro fave Carly Simon or the relatively unknown Saturday Night Live performer cum politician Al Franken.

3. Name a movie from a George Lucas franchise

POINTLESS - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Chez Wombat)
1 - Star Wars - Episode 5:The Empire Strikes Back (Jonjo,Joe)
1 - Star Wars - Episode 6:Return of the Jedi (Harry Ezra,Iz)
3 - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Regina,SamJudd,Jimmy Jam,princess_lotti)
14 - Star Wars - Episode 3:Revenge of the Sith (Ultraviolence1989)
14 - Willow (Alex!)
14 - Star Wars - Rogue One (Josh)
14 - Star Wars - Episode 4:A New Hope (J?hq)
14 - Star Wars - Episode 7:The Force Awakens (Mack)

Here's the first point of controversy (perhaps). I did state quite clearly that all films referred to in the answers had to be released between 1980 and 1989 (more of this later!) so the only Star Wars films that were viable for this one were episodes 5 and 6. Chez Wombat was the only player to go for the latter Indy film and nobody wanted the other remaining correct answer - Raiders of the Lost Ark. Alex! tried a different direction but, since Willow remains sequel-less in both a movie and TV sense, it doesn't count as a franchise per se.

4. A song from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.

POINTLESS - Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs - Stay(Harry Ezra)
POINTLESS - Tom Johnston - Where are you Tonight? (Regina)
POINTLESS - The Shirelles - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? (Ultraviolence1989)
POINTLESS - Mickey & Sylvia - Love is Strange (Jonjo)
POINTLESS - The Ronettes - Be My Baby (princess_lotti)
1 - The Blow Monkeys - You Don't Own Me (SamJudd,Joe)
1 - Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes (Chez Wombat,Mack)
1 - Patrick Swayze - She's Like the Wind (Iz,J?hq)
2 - Merry Clayton - Yes (Jimmy Jam,Alex!,Josh)

Dirty Dancing features so many songs it's not surprising there are a few pointless answers here. There were no wrong answers but a surprising number going for 'Yes' by Merry Clayton. Nobody went for the show's most popular theme '(I've Had) The Time of My Life' and, disappointingly, nobody went for 'Kellerman's Anthem' - all together now..."join hands and hearts and voices..."

5. A non-animated Walt Disney motion picture.

POINTLESS - The Man From Snowy River 2 (SamJudd)
POINTLESS - Dragonslayer (Ultraviolence1989)
POINTLESS - Benji the Hunted (Alex!)
POINTLESS - Star Wars - Episode 5:The Empire Strikes Back (Joe)
POINTLESS - Return to Oz (J?hq)
1 - Love Leads the Way (HarryEzra, Regina)
1 - Flight of the Navigator (Chez Wombat,Iz)
2 - The Journey of Natty Gan (Jimmy Jam,Jonjo,princess_lotti)
14 - Bedknobs and Broomsticks (Josh)
14 - The Parent Trap (Mack)

Time for more controversy - particularly Joe who very cheekily put forward The Empire Strikes Back - and, while at the time it wasn't a non-animated Disney film from the 80s, it is now so I've decided he gets away with it. There were lots to choose from here, but not many that were very famous as the 80s was a bit of a lean time for Uncle Walt. Of the correct answers, The Journey of Natty Gan (which featured a very young John Cusack) was most popular - and it's probably the one I would have gone for too. Sorry to Josh as Bedknobs and Broomsticks was released in 1971 (and is, quite famously, part-animated) and neither the Hayley Mills (1961) nor the Lindsay Lohan (1998) version of The Parent Trap was released in the 1980s.

6. An actor from the Breakfast Club.

POINTLESS - Anthony Michael Hall (J?hq)
POINTLESS - Emilio Estevez (Iz)
POINTLESS - Perry Crawford (Jonjo)
1 - Paul Gleason (HarryEzra, Chez Wombat)
1 - Ron Dean (Jimmy Jam,Alex!)
1 - John Kapelos (SamJudd,Josh)
1 - Ally Sheedy (princess_lotti,Mack)
2 - Molly Ringwald (Regina,Ultraviolence1989,Joe)

The Breakfast Club has a VERY small cast list with only seven actors having a significant number of lines. It feels very much more like a play than a movie with the only exterior shots coming at the beginning and end. This is also where a lot of pointless answers should be found but unfortunately Jimmy Jam and Alex! both plumped for Ron Dean. Bratpackers Anthony Michael Hall and Emilio Estevez were surprisingly pointless but nobody wanted Judd Nelson (John Bender) at all - no wonder the guy has issues. The girls in detention were much more popular along with the two staff members Paul Gleason and John Kapelos.
