cry.gif 1960s Top 40 Rate - The 'Impossible' Part 4 cry.gif

Numbers 35 and 36s

While there were several different UK singles charts during the 1960s (with the NME weekly chart being the most widely followed), the Guinness Book Of Hit Singles and, subsequently, the Official Charts Company use the Record Retailer chart as their reference during this period, so that's the one we'll be using here. The 'Official' Singles Charts, as we know it, didn't begin until February 1969.

These series of rates will cover March 1960 (when the chart expanded to a Top 40 for the first time) to December 1969.

Due to the relatively obscure nature of the tracks below you can vote as follows:

If you can't pick ten songs, you can try four:

36's

Just note that if gene pitneys brilliant original version of mecca had been the hit single instead of a rubbish cover it would have topped this list!
Knock off rubbish british covers were a total disease in the 60s tongue.gif The Jack Jones version of Nilssons brilliant Without Her is also better than Herb's decent version. Fab song.
