QUOTE Gohar Gasparyan @gohar_gasparyan 14h AMPTV’S NEW GROUNDBREAKING FORMAT OF NATIONAL SELECTION FOR EUROVISION 2017 COMING SOON !!! This was the moment earlier today when everyone's favourite head of delegation revealed Armenia were about to do something groundbreaking. It has now been revealed that a 4 month artist selection process will take place from September to December, with the latter 3 months containing weekly live shows - very groundbreaking indeed (and we won't mention the fact it sounds very similar to what Azerbaijan used to do every year until recently). Gohar obviously recognised that the Eurofans were devastated that Switzerland would no longer be starting the national selection season in September for the first time in a long time (see the Switzerland thread coming soon!) and swiftly ensured Armenia would take up that role. All the important details are here: Eurovision.tv On a more serious note this does sound very interesting and shows Armenia are really in it to win it, even more so than in the past. I'd probably rank them amongst the likes of Hungary and Poland (details about their new rumoured mega selection coming soon also!) as favourites to be the next country to have a debut win. Since their break in 2012 they have been very on/off (although 2015 was a personal favourite for me) and 2017 is due to be an "off" year, so maybe this groundbreaking selection will put a halt to that. |

I admire the dedication but I'm not really here for lengthy artist selections.

QUOTE The Armenian Public Television will launch ‘Depi Evratesil’, the ambitious Armenian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, in the autumn. Every week, the TV viewers will have the chance to follow the competitors’ race to Eurovision.
The jury in charge of guiding and judging the contestants through their journey will be composed of the Armenian representative at Eurovision 2016 Iveta Mukuchyan; the 2014 representative, Aram MP3; the 2007 representative, Hayko; the 2009 representatives, Inga and Anush Arshakyan, and one of the members from Genealogy along with Inga, Essaï Altounian. The competition will consist of four stages and will last for about three months. The winner -who will be determined by jury and SMS voting- will be given the chance to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Ukraine. The registration process for the competition is open until August 25th. Armenian citizens and Armenian heritage artists living abroad can participate by filling the application form HERE. |

Not even I am sitting through 3 months of selection shows! Apparently the standard was surprisingly high considering it was basically the auditions stage of X Factor type thing.

Not sure if Egine here is awful or spectacular, I think she's the latter!

We've reached the final 4 now, and all 4 are female guaranteeing a female representative for Armenia in 2017! The clear winner in semi-final one was Marta, and this is her in action from an earlier round (as her semi-final performance isn't on YouTube yet):
(Egine from above is in the final 4 too along with Artsvik and Syuzanna) |

I'm sure Gohar has orchestrated this late reveal so she could see what her competition was so I would guess it won't be a run-of-the-mill ballad, although the ballad/uptempo imbalance has pretty much evened up now anyway.

I'm waiting for this to be my Bulgaria last year (i.e. the 11/10 moment I was so dearly clinging on for and then finally got in the dying seconds).
I doubt it will happen but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised by Armenia. |
