As anyone who has ever been in a supermarket knows, the store usually puts on a film on their massive TVs in order to demonstrate how HD their TVs are.

On Saturday, I was looking up CDs in the E. Leclerc in Neufchatel-en-Bray when I saw, yet again, a film, Zootopia in this instance, being shown on those big HD TVs. And there were two kids there, who'd taken two stools from another aisle and were there, watching the film. I don't know how long they were there for.

So, who has watched a full, or part of a, film in a supermarket?

I have never watched a film off a big TV in a shop before, and didn't realise people did this laugh.gif I'll maybe have a look for a couple of minutes sometimes but I usually just walk past the TVs.

Yeah I've stopped and had a look for a couple of minutes before if it caught my attention but it doesn't happen not very often.

Definitely didn't realise this was a thing, the TV might like get bought half way through the film (if the display model is the only one left)...

I imagine it would be hard to pay attention with all those loud tannoy announcements echoing throughout the whole store.

"Colleague announcement: Johnny to tills please, that's Johnny to tills, thank you"

I know I've seen part of Aladdin in a store and also spent quite a long time watching Shrek, I believe the first one. I recall seeing Finding Nemo as well but it may have been just the DVD menu screen; if there are any others I can't remember them.

Way back in the late 1990s, our local Tesco had a massive video wall which seemed to constantly show the same four episodes of The Simpsons over and over again - this being the pre-DVD days when you'd get the odd single VHS tape released with four episodes on for about a tenner. I was mega into the show at the time but we didn't have Sky, only BBC (who were about five years behind Sky at the time) so I hadn't seen any of them on TV before and every time we went I'd basically be glued to the screen, watching all the episodes as the parents shopped.

The whole thing though was in silence - no audio, just the usual music and tannoy announcements - so after a few trips I pretty much knew what happened in four episodes of the show without knowing a single line of dialogue, trying to guess what they were saying based on the action on screen. When my parents finally got me the damn tape for my 10th birthday or something, it was a bizarre but cool experience actually watching the episodes I already half-knew and finding out what they were all actually saying.

You Youtube/Netflix kids don't know how HARD it was back in the day to watch your favourite TV shows!
