At Uni last year I created a wedding magazine, this year I'll be making a cat magazine and next year the big one - a music magazine.

I am currently the proud owner of this as inspiration for the magazine I need to make this year:

(crazy cat lady confirmed)

This got me wondering~ we've had a newspapers thread before but I can't quite recall a magazines one. My question is, do you guys still buy magazines? Even maybe to the extent of a subscription? If not then did you when you were younger? I'm quite interested in print and what entices people to buy magazines if you guys still do. (My friend bought Kerrang the other day for a twenty one pilots poster alone.)

Discuss away~

I'm not subscribed to any magazines nor do I buy them regularly, largely because the information in them becomes largely available all over the internet within a short amount of time and it feels like a bit of a waste of money. Also, music and film magazines are the more expensive ones and I can't really justify spendig money on them. However, sometimes if I'm going on a train journey or somewhere for a while, I can't resist picking up a gossip/celeb mag or two, they're so trashy but undeniably enjoyable laugh.gif

When I was younger I would get the really girly things like Sparkle World, Go Girl and Girl Talk laugh.gif Plus stuff like Tracy Beaker, Roald Dahl, Bratz, High School Musical, My Little Pony and Spongebob magazines lmao. Then this evolved into Shout and Sugar magazine in my teenage years. I can recall being devastated when Sugar magazine stopped publishing. I haven't really bought magazines regularly since that. I would usually get them for the competitions, stories and the funny things that people sent in/problem pages (there seemed to be a horrifying period story every issue *_*). I got into Q magazine for a little while too. Plus buying magazines with Gaga on the front when I was a bit of a collector.

I suppose magazines have gone the same way as newspapers, they seem to have evolved into having their own websites as well. Though I guess you would get more content and the whole glossy feel of a magazine too with a physical purchase. Magazines were important for me when younger, as they made me realise I wanted to go into journalism. I think my problem nowadays is that I would love to invest in a magazine regularly, but I haven't really found one worth investing in since my teenage years. So that's probably why I haven't regularly purchased issues of a magazine in a while. An exception is that my mum does regularly buy Best and Bella magazine, so I do flick through those occasionally just for the true stories people send in.

Like you Josh, replace train with dentist/orthadontist etc and the gossip magazines are kinda fun to read while waiting around laugh.gif

(Sidenote: me and my best friend have a cow song we wrote in Primary School published in a magazine. Claim 2 fame.)

I bought that Kerrang magazine for the twenty one pilots poster as well heehee.gif

I am ASHAMED to say I buy Take a Break magazine (a 17 year old male buying Take a Break gets a few looks all the time blush.gif and I've been doing it for a good few years now laugh.gif) - it's SOO good though. wub.gif I used to get football magazines & SpongeBob magazine too heehee.gif

And I used to be into Shaun the Sheep magazine when I was like 3 - I remember a recipe for a Special Chocolate Mousse: buy a chocolate mouse from a shop and put strawberries on top - that was it laugh.gif

This is bringing back so many memories - I kind of wish I had no access for the reminiscence of relying on magazines for my fill on gossip about everything sad.gif

I don't buy them much and am not subscribed to any, but over the years there have of course been many times where I've flicked through any random magazines I've stumbled upon in the house or some waiting room. There are some that look interesting in a local book store, I might see if there's any I might want to get, I think they have some sort of psychology magazines and the like, also photography.

I used to have a huge collection of these Mickey Mouse comic books when I was really young mellow.gif idk if that counts. The day I gave them away to someone I knew was the day I began to grow up.

I don't subscribe to any. Because the internet. All the magazines now seem to be aimed at either old women, young children or specialists of which I am neither of the three.

I'll buy Attitude or Gay Times depending who they've got on the cover. Attitude can forget it this month cos I'm not here for Robbie Williams.

When I was younger I subscribed to 'Mr Bean's Amazing A to Z' which had a magazine every week for a year iirc. They're still up on a shelf in the corner, stored in four ring binders that were provided :')

I was a member of the Dutch pop/youth magazines Break Out! and Hitkrant. The Break Out! isn't anymore and Hitkrant is a magazine for girls nowadays. Also did buy TOTP magazine or the German magazine Bravo.

I get Private Eye (you can't view it online!) and Weather - which is a journal of the Royal Meteorological Society (basically loads of pictures of clouds).

I also used to get NME quite a lot, especially now it is free!

I used to be absolutely obsessed with the Beano until I was about 11, I managed to get in it once for writing a fake news article about Billy Whizz laugh.gif Fame goals tbh.

Nowadays I don't really buy any, though I read the content of some online.

I never buy magazines individually now, used to regularly (with my brother) pick up what was then the WWF (now WWE) Magazine at the shop. Going back further, used to buy Archie comics and Spider-Man comics.

Only magazines that come here now are the magazines that come with the newspapers.

I buy What's On TV every week! Used to have subscriptions to Q and Official Nintendo Magazine but the former lapsed and I didn't renew it and the latter closed down sad.gif I bought loads more when I was younger, like the Beano/Dandy and tons of other comics and some other gaming magazines quite regularly too.

I should be a bigger advocate for magazines really considering I'm a magazine journalist for the printing industry, I currently write for two magainzes - PrintWeek and Image Reports. I do far prefer to read something in print than online as I'm staring at screens all day every day and print is more tactile and easier to read on journeys etc...
