5 questions I want to ask the community;

mario.gif Are you a fan of photography?

mario.gif Do you like to take creative photos, and not just selfies?

mario.gif Is there a particular photo you've taken which you consider to be quite special?

mario.gif Who in the photography world do you admire or follow their work?

mario.gif What does it take to be a good photographer?

I consider myself a fan of photography but I'm not a trained photographer nor do I take photos professionally. I do enjoy trying to capture moments though and anything I consider to look beautiful. I like to take photos of scenery the most I find, as this is still and doesn't require the greatest skill unlike animal photography for example.

At the moment, I'm actually participating in a challenge I found online called Dogwood Challenge. It is a 52 week photography challenge to capture all kinds of different shots with your camera, portrait, landscape and artistic, and it supposedly makes a better photographer out of you too.

Has anyone else ever done anything like this before? ohmy.gif

Discuss. smile.gif

I love photography. The more I think about it and go through life, the more I realise that I'll probably want to do something with photography professionally in the future (but then again, I felt that way about music and that kinda changed so haha, I dunno what'll happen...) I'm starting work experience with something next week that may help me with some sort of lead-up to that. It sounds clichéd but I sorta feel like photography is my way of expressing myself. One of the ways anyway. It's like my paintbrush (I can't paint lmao, last time I checked). Literally any subject can work.

I'll check out that challenge in the OP, thanks!

That's good Mattias, and judging by that photo you shared, I'd suggest you have an eye for a good shot. biggrin.gif

I also can relate to it being a way to express yourself, I too think of it like a way of capturing my journeys and discoveries too. It seems to give my life some purpose too!

I wish you every success in your goals of doing something professionally in the future. smile.gif

I love a bit of photography, I don't take many photos of people, I mostly concentrate on landscapes and weather - although I do like to get completely natural/not staged photos of life in general. I got loads of interesting shots at the weddings I was at when people didn't know I was taking photos, which often end up making the best photographs I find.

Every year I usually compile my best weather photos into a calendar for the following year, this is my fave winter one:

I use imageshack but there's loads of free sites you can use which keep your photos private.

I think some people use photobucket too.

mario.gif Are you a fan of photography?
I am indeed, I actually studied it within the first two years of my course too magic.gif

mario.gif Do you like to take creative photos, and not just selfies?
I take a shit load of photos, a lot of the time they don't turn out great but it's so fun just going out with my camera and seeing what I can find. During the summer I actually jumped a train to a couple of places purely just to go see what I could capture laugh.gif

mario.gif Is there a particular photo you've taken which you consider to be quite special?

Idk actually, probably my favourite photo I've taken is this one which I got at stirling castle, its so simple but idk I just really like how it turned out with the symmetry, the tone and the detail of the rain :')

mario.gif Who in the photography world do you admire or follow their work?
My favourite photographer is Raul Gonzo, he does a lot of work for PVRIS, he's more of a videographer/director but he's produced some stunning images. I also follow a lot of photographers that follow bands and tours, do a lot of portraiture work for magazines etc like Lindsey Byrnes, Sammy Roenfeldt and Jordan Knight. There's a load more but that's just a few from the top of my head.

mario.gif What does it take to be a good photographer?
A lot of people will say skill and knowledge of the practice but I'd argue its just having a good eye for what makes a good image. I couldn't tell you much about shutter speeds, exposures, all the technical stuff but I have produced a few good images if I do say so myself angel.gif I would by no means call myself a professional, it's really just a hobby laugh.gif

I really like the work by Clark Little at the moment. He specialises in taking action shots of waves!

I'm definitely a picture taker, it's not something I take seriously but it can be a lot of fun. I just went a whole year with no means of taking pictures because I lost my camera, so I'm making up for lost time now that I have a new phone. For someone like me who's obviously an amateur, I mostly just wing it and hope it turns out good, and I do impress myself a lot of the time. My favorite thing to take pictures of is trees in autumn when the leaves are changing (will upload one so I can post it here). I also love taking pictures of snow and especially food when I'm eating something interesting. tongue.gif

I love photography. I like to take photos but I wouldn't call myself a photographer, I am my own biggest critic (not just in photography) and always find myself comparing my work to other people's.

I usually take landscape or animal photography. I always tag my username in photos too, just incase laugh.gif You can see some of my work on Instagram, but I'll share a few links of some of my favourites

Took this one just last week on a walk near manchester, I loved how the tunnel framed the beauty on the other side wub.gif

'Little cat in a big city' heart.gif

I keep meaning to work on my photos, upload them somewhere properly, I add it to my list of other things to do laugh.gif

To be a good photographer? I don't think it means taking the best photos, I always believe that photos are about the memories and capturing the moment, rather than a quality standard. Take a memory, not a photo smile.gif

You take some good photos troublepink! smile.gif

I need some tips on how to capture a good photo for this week's Dogwood Challenge;

WEEK 13 — Portrait: High Key — Expose to the right and create a light, airy high key portrait.

What do you think that means then? huh.gif

Why is this thread title too high in the subject box on the Lounge page when it doesn't have a subtitle?

It's playing havoc with me.
