Are any Christmas Songs that you think aren't Christmas Songs in your option.

I think that East 17- Stay Another Day is a song that isn't anything about Christmas except for a few bells.

Also:

Alexandra Burke- Halleujah
Steps- Heartbeat

Anything which has been Christmas number one or involved in a chart race is. So I guess you've got things like:

The Human League - Don't You Want Me
Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind
The Flying Pickets - Only You
The Housemartins - Caravan of Love (which strangely is considered Christmassy, while the song which knocked it off the top spot at Christmas, Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson, isn't)
Gary Jules - Mad World

Funnily enough, Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie wasn't intended to be a Christmas release but I think his label really wanted it to be.

Stop The Cavalry wouldn't be considered a Christmas song if Christmas wasn't mentioned in the song.

Also for S Club, 'Have You Ever' that was considered to be Christmassey.

It also has sleighbells and a Salvation Army band. That's pretty Christmassy.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love

I will never see that as a Christmas song in my head.

I've been listening to songs from last December like 'Sax', 'Sorry', 'You Don't Own Me', 'Focus', 'The Girl is Mine' etc. and they're making me feel more Christmassy than actual Christmas songs at the moment!

Sax I would say is a bit Christmassy - because of the Asda advert that was played relentlessly last Christmas.

The Girl is Mine was the big festive period dance hit (compare with I Loved You for Christmas 2014 or Under Control for 2013).

I've always argued that Wham's Last Christmas has almost nothing to do with Christmas except that the events of the song apparently happened at Christmas.

I do love it as a Christmas classic but that is kinda true though, you could have it as 'Last Easter' and it the lyrics wouldn't need any changes except the title lyric and the 'merry Christmas' spoken bit.

You could also very easily replace 'Christmas' with 'Easter' in the lyrics of 'Fairytale Of New York', if you also replace the ringing bells with chocolate Easter bunnies.

Alma Cogan - 'Never Do A Tango With An Eskimo'

When I was working at HMV and we had Now That's What I Call Christmas on repeat, I was suddenly perplexed when this came on for the first time laugh.gif A bit of a weird song that I don't really think of as particularly Christmassy haha.

This gives me teas (yes, I still use this term) of the time I sent Vanessa Carlton - Hear the Bells to the BJSC Xmas spin-off and found out that apparently it's an existential song, not a Christmas one kink.gif

ARRRGGHHH IT IS NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS AND MENTIONS DECEMBER ONE TIME - BUT THAT IS A TRADITION IN HER EXISTENTIAL (AND ALSO HUMAN CONDITION - SEE HALF A WEEK BEFORE THE WINTER) SONGS!!! It's like saying Gwen Stefani's song about an Early Winter is aboot the Xmas!!

However I am glad to see you have seen sense - it is existential cool.gif
