Top 40 Chart Commentary

It's quite a busy chart week this week, although there are actually zero new entries! We do have a lot of high climbers and re-entries though. Firstly, there is no change at #1 as Bassjackers and KSHMR keep the #1 with 'Extreme' for a second week. They're looking like strong contenders for this year's Christmas Number One single at the moment. Also, if they hold #1 for a third week it will equal KSHMR's own run at #1 with 'JAMMU' last year.

Nora En Pure climbs to #2 with 'Tell My Heart', pushing Calvin Harris out of the top two for the first time in his 12th week - where in fact he takes a massive dive this week, down to #8. Mike Mago and Dragonette follow into the top 3 with 'Secret Stash'. Both climbers are up one place.

Clean Bandit have already spent five weeks in the top 20 but they haven't stopped yet. 'Rockabye' climbs nine places this week to #4 to give them another top 5 hit single. Zara Larsson climbs ten places to #5 with her new single 'I Would Like' - following her X Factor performance. It out peaks 'Ain't My Fault' (#6) by doing so, though it has a long way yet to match the #1 peak of 'Lush Life'.

TheFatRat catapults into the top ten with 'Epic', which jumps 28-6 this week. Nimmo drops down to #7, and long top ten runners Röyksopp and offaiah just hang on.

Christmas is coming and with that in mind we have five festive re-entries in the top 40 this week, and many more in the top 100. The highest of these is at #15 from Hurts with 'All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day', which peaked at #7 last year and is the third consecutive year it charts in the top 20.

Eternal classic 'Fairytale Of New York' has been a staple of the Christmas chart ever since the chart's inception in 2010. Its yearly peaks have been, in chronological order, #23, #33, #25, #3, #10 and last year #10 again. This year it re-enters at #16 and it could well make the top ten for a fourth consecutive year.

Wham's 'Last Christmas' is another song we all love at Christmas and it enters the top 20 again at #17. Its current all-time peak is an unlucky #11 so hopefully it can finally make the top ten this year. The Cascada cover version also re-enters the chart, at #23 this time which already out peaks last year's #25 which was the first year it entered the chart.

The final Christmas entry comes from Leona Lewis whose 'One More Sleep' has made the top 20 in every year since it was released, gradually improving its peak over time too (#17 -> #12 -> #9). This year it re-enters at #25 but it could well climb still especially on Christmas chart week.
