We used to have more Box Office discussion but it has completely died out now so was hoping to resurrect it a bit with US and UK discussion threads.

Last weekend Moana was #1 in the US and it's still just ahead in the daily's at the moment: (domestic totals in brackets)
1 MOANA $1,419,381 ($121,205,700)
2 FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM $1,257,489 ($184,338,003
3 ARRIVAL $619,541 ($73,665,084)
4 ALLIED $603,562 ($29,507,060)
5 DOCTOR STRANGE $499,818 ($216,007,547)

I do wish Allied was doing slightly better, was hoping the US would save it a bit but it's worldwide total isn't as big as I was hoping, I really loved that film.

Seems like Fantastic Beasts has been a big success but still lower than all the HP films so far, hoping the sequels pick up, would love the Dumbledore vs Grindelwald film to be DHPt2 levels of huge!

US BOX OFFICE DEC 9-11

(Estimates)
1 Moana $18,842,000 ($145,008,593)
2 Office Christmas Party $17,500,000 ($17,500,000)
3 Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them $10,785,000 ($199,310,903)
4 Arrival $5,600,000 ($81,451,708)
5 Doctor Strange $4,631,000 ($222,362,446)
6 Allied $4,000,000 ($35,633,452)
7 Nocturnal Animals $3,193,685 ($6,219,813)
8 Manchester by the Sea $3,155,330 ($8,325,531)
9 Trolls $3,110,000 ($145,490,004)
10 Hacksaw Ridge $2,300,000 ($60,862,448)

Only estimates so no official figures yet. I was expecting Office Xmas Party to be #1 actually so that's a bit disappointing, I'm still looking forward to seeing it.

Also a big yay at Fantatsic Beasts being #9 worldwide now, would love it to overtake Suicide Squad if possible. I think Secret Life of Pets is the only film that I didn't love in the top 10 so far worldwide though.

1 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story $155,081,681 ($155,081,681)
2 Moana $12,726,232 ($162,920,9770
3 Office Christmas Party $8,587,528 ($31,655,795)
4 Collateral Beauty $7,102,085 ($7,102,085)
5 Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them $5,071,323 ($207,722,418)
6 Manchester by the Sea $4,244,014 ($14,104,319)
7 La La Land $4,102,091 ($5,342,257)
8 Arrival $2,972,958 ($86,666,3250
9 Doctor Strange $2,210,912 ($226,260,939)
10 Nocturnal Animals $1,407,088 ($8,828,454)

Others:
15 Jackie $573,645 ($1,616,380)
16 Miss Sloane $448,555 ($3,188,191)
17 Moonlight $378,081 ($11,479,757)
19 Loving $217,182 ($7,111,4240
26 Fences $129,462 ($129,462)

Obviously a huge opening for Rogue One this weekend and second highest December opening ever behind TFA of course. Behind Civil War and BvS in terms of domestic openings so we'll have to see how it holds up.

Dreadful for Will Smith, I think reviews seem to have completely destroyed the film but that is not a good opening at all. It's his worst opening weekend in over 20 years ohmy.gif

Also, La La Land is doing fantastic! Almost level with Manchester By the Sea but currently in just over 1,000 theatres less! Starting to think that is going to be the big winner come awards season.

I was also expecting Fences to get a bit of a better per theatre average, I think Viola is likely going to be the only win for the film now. ohmy.gif Some of its hyped feels like it has faded a little.

Dec 30-Jan 1

01 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story $49,609,002 ($424,987,707)
02 Sing $42,896,330 ($166,497,820)
03 Passengers $16,160,539 ($61,264,152)
04 Moana $10,987,075 ($210,046,114)
05 Why Him? $10,048,645 ($34,607,232)
06 Fences $10,041,471 ($29,743,615)
07 La La Land $9,553,414 ($34,268,613)
08 Assassin's Creed $8,678,046 ($39,721,564)
09 Manchester by the Sea $4,244,121 ($28,468,772)
10 Collateral Beauty $4,161,129 ($25,816,746)

Others:
11 Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them $4,110,464 ($224,125,258)
13 Lion $2,273,170 ($6,105,673)
15 Jackie $1,554,896 ($7,030,902)
16 Arrival $1,359,358 ($92,191,690)
19 Doctor Strange $646,480 ($230,107,790)
29 20th Century Women $111,200 ($178,576)

Rogue One continuing to do fantastically, I was expecting around $450 million to be it's full run domestic total and it's got there in a couple of weeks already ohmy.gif Wow at how well Sing is doing too, maybe it could challenge for #1 in a couple of weeks as the competition is look pretty dead until Xander Cage comes along at the end of the month.

Fantastic Beasts is getting close to overtaking Deadpool too now, seems like it's having great box office legs. Not a bad result for a film with none of the same characters as the Harry Potter movies, I imagine it will only increase for future movies with Dumbledore and Grindelwald!
