In a somewhat unpredictable race for Christmas #1, there seem to be more possibly contenders than usual. The most obvious is Clean Bandit, who have been #1 for several weeks already. We also have several charities and fan-lead campaigns including The London Hospices Choir & Paul Carrack, Friends of Jo Cox and Inspiral Carpets’ 'Saturn 5'. There's also an outside chance from Brits Critic Choice winner Rag 'n' Bone Man, who's 'Human' is climbing the chart as well as Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas is You' which will undoubtedly get huge streams as we get closer to Christmas.

There's nothing interesting happening on the album chart, but we can expect big sales from Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, Little Mix, Rolling Stones Elvis and Olly Murs, probably in that order, chart-wise.

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday and Sunday: Information on Twitter from MintRoyale only. Please do not make requests, we do not have any information other than what's posted.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 + Radio 1 Chart Update 5:30pm to 5:45pm.
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Midweek information will be scarce over the Christmas period, we will not get updates as frequently as normal, we thank you for your patience!

QUOTE
London Hospices Choir, Rag N Bone Man and Inspiral Carpets have emerged as the surprise front-runners in the Official Christmas Number 1 race 2016 after 24 hours, OfficialCharts.com can confirm.

Official Charts Company sales reports based on preorders and early sales data up to midnight last night (but with the vast majority of streams yet to be tallied), indicate that the London Hospices Choir are currently leading the way today (December 17), ahead of BRITs Critics' Choice winner Rag'n'Bone Man (2), and a fan-led campaign to get Manchester band Inspiral Carpets’ Saturn 5 (3) to Christmas Number 1 following the untimely death of drummer Craig Gill last month.

But there is a long long way to go yet. A full 7 days streams still have to be counted, along with 6 days of sales, indicating that the race is still wide open at this stage.

The choir of staff, patients and volunteers from 18 hospices across London have released a cover of Mike & Mechanics’ The Living Years, and are heading a closely fought race at the end of day 1 by just over 600 copies. With the entire Top 20 at this stage separated by less than 3,000 copies, there is a long way to go yet and all to play for. A full 7 days’ streams still have to be counted, along with 6 days of sales.

Big tracks from current chart stars could also be in with a chance, as X Factor winner Matt Terry rides at Number 4, trailed by reigning chart-toppers Clean Bandit with Rockabye at 5, and Little Mix's Touch (6),Zara Larsson (7) and One Direction's Louis Tomlinson (8) also present in the Top 10 at this stage.

This year’s Christmas Number 1 race welcomes a range of new contenders throwing their hat into the ring, many raising money for charity, several of which are cracking today’s early sales flash, including Friends Of Jo Cox (Number 9) with their cover of The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want, released in memory of the late politician who was tragically murdered earlier this year in Birstall, West Yorkshire. The track features the likes of KT Tunstall, David Gray, Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson and Parliamentary rock band MP4, and was backed by Prime Minister Theresa May earlier this week.

Just outside today’s early Top 10 at Number 12 is Hartlepool duo Liv ‘N’ G with Our Superhero (A Christmas Wish), a track released to raise funds for the much-needed cancer treatment of 5 year-old Sunderland football fan, Bradley Lowery, who has been battling Neuroblastoma since the age of two.

Further down at Number 15 is a team of South Yorkshire firefighters – The Everly Pregnant Brothers - with Chip Pan (15), a rework of Kings of Leon’s Sex On Fire, but this time all about the hazards of chip pan fires. Proceeds from this release going to Shelter and Age UK to protect the elderly and vulnerable in their homes.

I'd never have guessed any of the charity/campaign songs other than Friends of Jo Cox would have stood a chance at getting #1 before this week.

Hopefully streams will push Rag'n'Bone Man/Matt Terry/Clean Bandit/Mariah Carey to #1 by the end of the week. Incredible that only 3k separates the Top 20 at this point.

This is so RIDICULOUS. This is all just done in favour of the bookies so people place bets on the front runners.

I hope the media don't start picking up on the choir being no 1, if this ends up like last year with The Choir I'll be fuming!!

Hmmm interesting.

I guess songs which aren't going to strong on Streaming will be strong on physicals etc which means may be alot closer than expecting. Streaming figures are going to be big over the weekend though and I can see that being the deciding factor

Nooo he's WAYYYY down at 30 on Spotify. Clean Bandit will be #1 ahead of all this lot. It bugs me why they make it look close run, when it's not the Choir are probably around #10 or lower.

That is the official top 20 Download chart with nothing added, so I'm not really reading into it, to be honest that was a waste of time posting a chart... why bother?

Well this is the only time we are going to see Chip Pan in the chart laugh.gif

There's definitely some sort of ulterior motive behind it. I just hope the media don't run with this next week, branding it as a close race to no 1.

Also I'll be very weary with OCC updates throughout the week, as they won't give the whole spectrum, as there be stream sales missing from the previous day.
