At least 12 are dead and 48 are injured after a truck drove into a busy Christmas market in Berlin's Breitscheidplatz. The event is suspected to be a terrorist attack.

Unsurprisingly, far right politicians have pounced on this, with Nigel Farage calling it the "Merkel legacy" and an Alternative for Germany spokeswoman calling for new control on Germany's borders as a result of the attack.

Thoughts?

Really awful, scary stuff. The far right need to stop taking advantage of tragedy to further their agenda.

Very scary stuff. The markets in Berlin are such a lovely celebration and atmosphere. This is tragic sad.gif

Worst thing is Farage and Trump and AfD using this to further their own agendas. Vile awful nasty animals the lot of them. People died. Now is not the time for political point scoring.

It just upsets me how people can do things like this in a time of celebration. I really hope that Farage and co. can see what has hapened for what it actually is - a tragedy. Not getting my hopes up though sad.gif

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest that politicians are using this to push their agendas. The same happened when Jo Cox died.

This is really upsetting stuff. Obviously it remains so at any time of year, but you can't help but think about how devastating it is to happen so close to Christmas. It reminds me of the truck crash in Glasgow(?) a couple of Christmases back, which I remember really touched me watching on the news, even though I don't usually get affected like that.

This is horrible. Such a shame that there's always something to disrupt what's meant to be a time of happiness and celebration. Disgusting individuals. Let's hope that they get ran over too!

Yes it was Glasgow. Happened in George Square when a bin lorry killed 8. I think 8 anyway.

Just over a year after the Clutha pub disaster too. Two rough Christmases on the bounce for Glasgow

so, with no evidence, farage blames the EU immigration policies for this, and when the widower of Jo Cox points out his wife was assassinated by a white Brit, His Vileness pops onto TV and calls the Hopenothate movement a terrorist-supporting organisation.

Farage has never condemned the murder of Jo Cox, never expressed any sympathy for the family, and shown not a shred of human sympathy for the family. Quite the reverse, he slags them off for "Using" the death of his wife for political comment. Nothing like Farage has been doing then, using a terrorist tragedy for his own political ends? Just that one is compassionate and one loves Hitler.

Just as Farage hates American Presidents sticking their nose into British referendum's but loves them telling the British Gov to give him a job after HE stuck his nose into American elections.

f***ing hypocrite of the first order and a truly nasty, immoral excuse for a human being.

It's disgusting that as soon as something like this happens, you get Farage, Hopkins, Trump and all the others of that mindset using it for their political agenda. It's so distasteful. Like popchartfreak says, no expression of sympathy or condemnation, they just immediately start spouting their nonsense. It's actually disgusting! Not a shred of human decency between them.

The Government's considering raising the UK threat level to the highest level and roads around Buckingham Palace closed as they think the crowd watching Changing Of The Guard at 10.30 every morning could be targets.

A really upsetting tragedy, likely deliberately targeted to cause maximum division.

In the past few weeks Merkel has already had to change her rhetoric with calls to 'ban the burqa'.. well that went well in France and Belgium over the past year didn't it?

She seems to have lost the plot and is pandering to the populist momentum just like the incredibly WEAK Cameron with his pledge to give the UK a referendum on EU membership..

My friend on twitter is grumbling about how they arrested someone non-white first and then woke everyone up searching a refuge centre. I swear people try to find f***ing offence in everything.

If all your evidence CCTV and eyewitnesses say it was a man of Arabic features you're hardly gonna go round nicking Scandinavians so as not to offend. Nah you pick up anyone who matches the best description you've got.

This friend is now "too tired to continue arguing the point" - ie you lost.

Omg now one "sjw" is trying to claim that if it was a white person they wouldn't raid anywhere selling pumpkin spiced lattes or arrest anyone in same clothing. As if a Starbucks and the refuge centre where the person they had in custody lived are suddenly comparable things. f***ing morons. There's just a complete lack of sense in the rush to be offended

Unfortunately there are too many people in this country and especially mainland Europe that are more concerned about Islamophobia rather than Muslim terrorists and Islam in general, I find that truly worrying. And this wasn't a tragedy which I think to say is very offensive to the victims in this, this was cold blooded murder. God only know how many lives have been saved by the heroes in the UK's secret service and the police.
