So I start my new job tomorrow, it's for a company which in all honesty I know little about, but they headhunter me and offered me the position on the spot. It's a big step for me both in salary and in other aspects.

I haven't worked full-time hours in over 2 years now and that's because of doing driving jobs, and other casual work too. I also haven't worked in an office environment for 3 years and I left that environment because it started to make me feel trapped and contained, and subsequently I had panic attacks.

Now I feel as if I'm making a major step back and am setting myself up for failure before I've even started my first day.

Also due to location I'll have to resort to commuting by bus each day rather than drive my own car, and that thought freaks me out too.

Guys this feels terrifying for me. cry.gif

Just remember that nothing is permanent, you may surprise yourself and love the job and reap the benefits (eg. a better wage), however if for any reason you don't, nobody is forcing you to stay forever and you can move on to another job! Just think positive because after all it IS worth a try and you might end up really enjoying it and feeling comfortable! happy.gif

Just remember, if it doesn't feel right at first give it time till you settle in. Also anything money wise above what you used to get save, just incase you do decide you hate it so you have money to support yourself on should you chose to leave.

Martyn- giving great advise to everyone other than himself tongue.gif

You might surprise yourself and enjoy it more than you think, if it's not for you and you'd rather be elsewhere it's not the end of the world and I'm sure you'll find other opportunities that are more suiting, it can't hurt to give it a go magic.gif

The fact you've been headhunted suggest that they are very interested in you - there are many people who don't have that atm so just remember that. I know it might be a bit different and take a while to get used to, but at least persist through the first few weeks and you may find that you're good at it! Plus you'll have a solid routine and salary and could make new friends etc.

I'm almost always anxious about going into my placement every week (even tomorrow and it's only a CPD :x), but as long as you want to do it again even if you have the worst possible day, then you'll know it's for you. Just put on a display of confidence, talk to others when you can and try your hardest and it should go well.

^ kids are back tomorrow for us and I have major dread about it :/

Awardinary, it's natural you're going to feel anxious but I guarentee a few days down the line it'll all fall in place and seem natural. What a brilliant way to start the new year with new opportunities / salary etc, try to find some excitement in the angst. All the best, hope it works out for you biggrin.gif

I am sure you will get gradual training in your new job, they won't just expect you to do everything in the first day.

Good luck.

Best of luck with it, as others have said you might like it.

Tip about the buses, get an earlier one if you can. My start time was 8:30am, I got the bus that arrived at just before 8 as opposed to the one that arrived at just after twenty past 8. Gives you time to have a stress free start and are able to start on time.

I work in a office environment and originally I found it overwhelming working there but after a few weeks I was fine.

They won't expect you all to know everything at first. Just gradually they'll settle you in.
