Because of the streaming services, I know not many people buy physical music albums anymore..
But since most of you here must be huge music fans,
do you still buy music albums? In which format?

I also see many musicians (especially young indies) are trying some experiments.
A friend of mine made her music album as an usb.. another one made his as a lego sculpture with a download code.
What do you think about these?
Will you buy them if your favourite musicians make these kinds of music albums?

I still buy albums, I have incorporated buying more vinyl as of late as well as CDs! Have always loved having the physical product.

If I really love the artist or album then I'll buy it on CD and sometimes vinyl as well.

I buy the vast majority of my albums on CD! It's way more fulfilling for me to buy a physical copy, whether that be by going out to a shop or by getting it in the post, both just add to my anticipation of the album I think.

Me. Don't download. Buy the occasional CD album. My daughter, 21, told me that I must be the only person still buying CD's. Told her Adele and Ed Sheeran would say otherwise! biggrin.gif

The only albums I buy physically are compilations but only on the condition that the songs don't crossfade each other

So this is one of the experiments that some young musicians are doing these days,
A designed product with a download code..
You will get a code when you buy the product and you can download the music files with the code.
What do you think about this? Would you buy this?

I still buy albums!

So far, I have...

433 CDs, 329 vinyl, and 31 cassettes.

My recent album purchases were George Michael's Patience and NOW 90 (both on CD)

The product itself is just ornamental. But it still represents the music like a cd or a vinyl does,
and you can also collect them like you collect other physical formats of the music albums (or dolls, stamps, etc).
You get the download code when you purchase the object, and you can own the music when you download it (legally).

That particular one is not functional but I have also seen others making an usb (you can use it as a normal usb but it will have her music in it).

I still love buying albums and will still prefer to do so even when artists stop making them.

I buy albums physically more than I do downloading I'd say! My birthday & Christmas are just under six months apart so I usually ask for a bunch of physicals for presents! I then pick up a few albums throughout the year at HMV but my local one closed down a few years ago (literally just as I was getting into actually listening to albums & not just singles!) so whenever I go to HMV I usually pick up one or two!

If its an artist I absolutely adore though I will go to my local Sainsburys and buy it on opening day! (Taylor Swift/Lana Del Rey/Lady Gaga etc fall under this!)

The only album I've bought physically in the few years is "25". The only CD player I now have is in the car and even then I have an AUX cable so the format is pretty redundant for me now. Streaming all the way!

Yeah! I only buy digital albums if it's Ellie Goulding in order to help out with sales etc which is similar to vinyl, I don't have a record player but I buy vinyls from artists I really love! I have all 3 Ellie albums and Lady wood on vinyl just for display.

I have about 50 CDs which is quite unusual I'd say for someone my age! Of course, I do stream albums before I buy them on CDs, though this is usually for smaller artists I'm unaware of to see if it's worth it.

Lately the only albums I've bought for myself are Now CDs, and maybe one or two as gifts for my parents. I just barely listen to CDs anymore but would like to keep my collection (between 50-60 Now CDs and 50-60 artist albums) even if I'm no longer adding to it.

I've got so many CDs I've lost count, let's just say it's over 200. You get the files as high quality as you like (I either go 320kps or even lossless nowadays) plus you've got something physical to show for it, not to mention it's the same price or less than mp3s if it's 2nd hand- albums that had a lot of copies made and are a few years old from Amazon are always so cheap. I've not collected as much as usual recently (mostly because I'm a bit poor rn </3) but I'm still very much a collector, not properly switch to streaming at all even though I sometimes use it cause we've got SONOS at home. I've got such a large collection- approx 15k songs on iTunes and a sizeable chunk of those are from CDs. I also collect vinyls occasionally but I've not got so many of those both parents separately have larger collections and I gift them vinyls every now and again. I know the ones I do have include:

Owl City - Ocean Eyes
Dire Straits - Making Movies
Meadowlark - Three Six Five
Pink Floyd - Obscured By Clouds

I still do buy/collect CDs, I use Spotify as well but I'm also getting into vinyl since FINALLY getting a player at Christmas so I do spend quite a bit on music between all of that laugh.gif
