Dua Lipa’s Be The One holds steady at the top spot by a fair margin. Be The One becomes the third consecutive #1 to hold the top spot for more than one week. She’s chased close this week by Lindsey Stirling, and an Ed Sheeran surge with last week’s highest new entry Castle on the Hill. Louis Tomlinson’s Just Hold On and Estelle’s 2012 oldie-but-goldie Break Your Heart ft. Rick Ross hold their positions at #4 and #5. It’s Louis Aoki’s impressive 4th consecutive week in the top 5 from its debut when it entered at #5, a position three of the current top 5 have held.

New entrants into the top 10 this week come from Snakehips and M0, Hydrogen Sea, Sia’s Move Your Body and Prides’ semi-Christmassy Tinseltown in the Rain. Just beyond, Mako and Natalola’s Run For Your Life yo-yos for a 4th consecutive week. Its 20-10-19-11 chart run so far is definitely a strange one. Also in the top 20, The Naked And Famous's Laid Low reaches a new peak this week in its second chart run. The XX's On Hold becomes this week's longest runner, clocking up 9 weeks across two runs, and re-entering into the top 20 this week following their album release. New entries full stop this week come from Tove Lo, Frenship, Ducktails, Rayvon Owen, Brookes Brothers, Dreezy, Saint Clair and Charli XCX, at varying places through the rundown. Next post will go more into those with wee introductions.

As my charts continue, tracks are starting to – in general – stick around for longer, and this week’s chart is no exception. Although part of that might be another year, another lack of big new releases. Nevertheless, there’s eight new entries this week – some of them newer than others.

Should be some big new entries on the way next week though - I had forgotten about Goldfrapp's new album. Pleasantly surprised by Dua Lipa's official chart success this week after two weeks ruling the roost on my personals. Also how Ed Sheeran's Castle (2 weeks in my top 10) is starting to surpass Shape in some territories - it hasn't yet charted for me at all.
Onto new entries now:

Ex-American Idol Rayvon Owen debuts this week with this smooth R&B jam. The video has a cheeky little LGBT twist to the story too. Otherwise it’s pretty by the numbers R&B with a male falsetto, the kind of track you wouldn’t be too surprised to see coming from Chris Brown, JT or even Jason Derulo. This is pretty polished for a former talent show contestant tbh.

Second charter ever and first new one this year for the alt-EDM duo, this time without rising star Emily Warren. Capsize was a pretty popular minor hit last year across the world, a youtube viral success, and made it into my EOY 2016. This one’s not a bad follow-up, it’s not as good, but it’s decent. Male vocals on this one gives it a bit of comparison to The Chainsmokers, the same ilk.

Pretty under-the-radar character now Saint Clair, who I first came across last year in the spring with her song Sailing. This track, Heavy On My Heart, is much more popular on Spotify – by a factor of about 100k plays. She’s British, and her music is about midway between Shura and older Birdy.

This is Dreezy, the non-masked rapper from AlunaGeorge’s Mean What I Mean, that anyone following my 2016 EOY will have seen pop up recently. This is actually a pretty good song, strong shades of R&B Nicki Minaj on this, a bit of Tinashe too, and Tink. Not bad as a replacement while Minaj is on hiatus and her Major Lazer collab’s been unexpectedly delayed. This could easily go top 40 with radio support.

First came across Ducktails in 2014 and came across this track while deliberately chasing up what some of my one-hit wonders from that year were up to now. Anyone coming in from the indie forum might be more inclined to like this one. Apparently Ducktails is a side project by one of the members of Real Estate, but I don’t think I know that band very well – still, if anyone’s interested. There's a bit of Tame Impala here, a bit Foxygen, a bit Ariel Pink even.

A slightly older one now, drum-and-bass UK by the Brookes Brothers and vocalist Camille. A bit of Chase and Status, a bit of Drumsound and Bassline Smith on this one. Particularly reminds me of Drumsound and Bassline Smith’s song, the best thing Fleur East has ever done, One In A Million (2014). Yes, from Fleur East’s first solo career, before she decided to recast herself as an amateur club singer and waitress and enter the X Factor. ‘Reality’ TV, eh.

The title track from Tove Lo’s second album, released last year. It was one of my standouts when the album first released, but never quite made it into the charts from the plays it picked up when I first heard the album. Since buying the album as a later-Christmas present for myself, tracks on it have had an easier time picking up a trickle plays. Lady Wood is a pretty good album but the title and the whole metaphor around it does come off as a bit ESL pop. Cringe.

Charli goes back to pop on this one after early 2016’s Vroom Vroom EP’s slightly harder sound - this one’s almost Cher Lloyd-esque. The song took a long time to grow on me, but ultimately has the same kind of appeal as Lily Allen’s Air Balloon – catchy, cheeky, and a bit childish. Those qualities are initially a little offputting but can turn the corner into endearing. I still find the video a bit gross though – great prosthetics, just a little disturbing.

For once I actually updated the playlist so it's accurate for this week's chart! Feel free to have a gander from the link in the OP smile.gif

Also, questions, comments, reviews, your opinions are super welcome as always - love to hear what people think smile.gif
