One of my friends likes to constantly talk about work at almost every opportunity and it borders on obsession. We could even have a conversation about something as light as eating spaghetti Bolognese and he would still find a way to connect it to work somehow.

There was a time when a group of us met near where he lives one weekend to play football on an astro turf and I was late due to having to wait long for a bus to come and once I finally arrived he was in a bit of a mood and asked me "are you late for work?" and I was thinking to myself what does me being late for work or not have to do with a group of friends meeting up on a Saturday afternoon to have a kickabout?

He can also be quite cocky and condescending when it comes to talking about work because he's in what I assume to be a well paid job and he's been working almost non-stop since he left secondary school and he's in his mid-late 20's now.

Do any of you know someone like this? or are you the type of person to constantly talk about work?

I suppose there's nothing wrong with loving your job. Just tell them that you don't give a sh*t about his job laugh.gif

But yeah, I find these types of people very annoying.

Not work, but I have a friend who has a few set topics that she will work into ANY conversation drama.gif I suppose at least that's a bit varied so it's not just one thing like your friend with work but that doesn't make it less annoying. We can be like watching The Chase, a question will come up, and she'll find a way to connect one of those topics to it really really tenuously. The worst thing is if you don't pay her enough attention or give her the "right" response, she'll repeat or just carry on telling her story anyway drama.gif

I talk about the people I work with quite a bit to some people but it's usually either because they've pissed me off and I need to rant or some ridiculous drama has gone down and I need to share it, I feel like that's fine tho even if they don't know the people I work with laugh.gif But no I like to leave the place behind me when I clock out so I don't go out of my way to force it into conversations... I guess some people are defined solely by their career, it kind of makes sense as we're brought up to study, go to uni and search for this perfect job so if your prime ambition is to do that then I guess it's gonna be the biggest thing about you in some cases

My uncle does this and he hates where he works and who he works with, to the point where you can predict what he'll say before he says it. He's kind of the black sheep of the family just because he's that unpleasant to be around, and he knows it bothers people but can't stop himself from complaining. He lives alone and has no one to vent to so I kind of get it, but it's an attitude/personality problem more than anything else.

I only talk about my work if there is something interesting that happened but so few people do what I do so I would need to explain what I actually do at work in order to start going into details. So i just cba to even vent

As for other people, i don't quite mind. However, some new mums/pregnant future mums tend to talk all the time about their babies and this is what would start getting on me tbh. No one cares about your placenta and what sound your baby does when it burps or poops.

I'll occasionally vent about one of my managers being and arsehole but that's it. I work in Tax so it's hardly thrilling conversation.

That would require you to get off your lazy arse and actually work

Whenever we go on a work night out the first hour is basically us bitching about the place. When people are running late they instantly know what the topic is about and can jump right in. laugh.gif

After that it then turns to family life, sports etc.

Okay well today I've taken the dog out for an hour this morning across to the park to see my dog-walking friends. They weren't very nice to me though, told me to start going elsewhere as I talk too much and it's all crap. I get the feeling they don't like me. sad.gif

Then came back and hoovered and was gobsmacked at all the fluff behind the settee so must pull it out more often. laugh.gif Maybe should hoover every day with having a dog. Then hung the washing and have a sock missing. So I may not have paid work but I have household chores to do every day.

Maybe if you started topics with actual discussion value which is not inappropriate we won't have to lock them!
