Thought to be important and she'll speak at 11.15. Could she be resigning or want a general election so be about to trigger a no-confidence vote in the Commons? The news channels are wetting themselves with anticipation.

BBC and most newspaper sites speculating that it's an election trigger but ITV saying she's going to resign due to ill-health triggered by her diabetes.

I hope it won't be an election. What's the point in triggering Article 50 if you're just going to go and call an election, delaying any talks with the EU that is on a strict timetable anyway!!

Plus, she would need 2/3 of Parliament vote and I can't see Labour voting for it when most of their MPs don't consider themselves to be electable. Plus, SNP have nothing to gain when they already hold all but 1/2 seats.

She's basically announcing her intentions for an election. Tomorrow, they'll be a vote under the Fixed Term act where at least 2/3 of MPs need to vote in favour of an election.

So her way of "ending uncertainty" is to have the longest general election campaign ever? What happened to all those promises not to call an early election? Oh yes, silly me. They were lies.

Of course a cynic might think that the CPS were about to announce that they were going to charge various Tories with electoral fraud at the last election. This would give them an opportunity to avoid reruns of those individual elections simply by saying that they have been superseded.
