Chart Commentary

In a boyband top 2, we see The Vamps dethroned after one week by Swedish pop group FO&O, who claim their second #1 hit with So So Good. The trio, made up of Felix Sandman, Oscar Enestad and Omar Rudberg, first reached #1 earlier this year with Gotta Thing About You, which climbs back up three places to #24 this week. They first charted last year under their old band name The Fooo Conspiracy, alongside fourth member Olly Molander, with #7 hit My Girl. All of their chart hits feature on their self-titled debut international album, which enters my album chart at #2 this week.

FO&O / The Fooo Conspiracy
2016 07 My Girl | 3 | 7-13-24-37-X (4 weeks)
2016 20 Who Doesn't Love Love | 5 | 36-20-27-36-X (4 weeks)
2017 01 Gotta Thing About You | 6 | 1-1-2-5-5-9-11-20-21-24-27-24-... (12+ weeks)
2017 01 So So Good | 7 | 1-... (1+ weeks)

FO&O competed in Melodifestivalen earlier this year, as did Benjamin Ingrosso, who's also new in this week's top 5 with his follow-up single. Do You Think About Me gives Benjamin his third top 5 hit, following Melodifestivalen track Good Lovin' which got to #3 earlier this year, and his personal best with debut single Fall In Love last year, a #1 hit.

Benjamin Ingrosso
2016 24 Love You Again | 3 | 37-24-33-X (3 weeks)
2016 01 Fall In Love | 1 | 1-2-6-11-19-28-38-X (7 weeks)
2016 29 Crystal Clear | 2 | 29-X (1 week)
2017 03 Good Lovin' | 4 | 3-7-12-18-21-28-35-X (7 weeks)
2017 04 Do You Think About Me | 5 | 4-... (1+ weeks)

The third new entry in this week's top 10 comes from Jonas Blue, who scores his highest peaking track to date with Mama, new in at #5. Previously, Fast Car was his most successful track, peaking at #10, while Perfect Strangers and By Your Side made little impact. The track features Australian singer William Singe, who makes his first chart appearance.

Jonas Blue
2016 10 Fast Car (feat. Dakota) | NAS | 10-13-32-X (3 weeks)
2016 37 Perfect Strangers (feat. JP Cooper) | NAS | 37-X (1 week)
2016 36 By Your Side (feat. RAYE) | NAS | 36-40-X (2 weeks)
2017 05 Mama (feat. William Singe) | NAS | 5-... (1+ weeks)

William Singe
2017 05 Mama (Jonas Blue feat. William Singe) | FEAT | 5-... (1+ weeks)

Reed Deming's scored two #1s in my chart since his debut in 2014, including the third biggest track of 2014. Every (original) track from his most recent EPs, Satellites and Sunny, has made my singles chart top 40, and in total he's scored eight top 10s between his debut and now. New single Cry Wolf, released a year after previous hit Take You Out, marks a change in sound for Reed. He scores his ninth top 10, as it enters at #7.

Reed Deming
2014 01 Crash Test Dummy (Broken) | 1 | 1-2-1-2-4-3-6-6-6-5-8-6-7-6-7-10-5-7-10-11-12-15-19-20-18-23-31-28-24-28-34-X (31 weeks)
2014 08 The List | AT | 8-9-12-23-28-X (5 weeks)
2014 01 Satellites | 2 | 10-17-27-36-X-1-2-4-7-11-12-18-26-33-39-X (14 non-consecutive weeks)
2014 09 Falling | AT | 17-13-9-16-15-22-35-X (7 weeks)
2014 06 Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) | NAS | 6-9-40-X (3 weeks)
2015 04 Want Me More | 1 | 4-11-15-22-36-X (5 weeks)
2015 08 Seven Billion Smiles | AT | 8-24-38-X (3 weeks)
2015 21 Battle Cry | AT | 21-32-X (2 weeks)
2015 36 Sunny | AT | 36-X (1 week)
2015 39 Roller Coaster | AT | 39-X (1 week)
2016 28 California Coastline | PS | 28-X (1 week)
2016 05 Take You Out | NAS | 32-5-11-23-32-X (5 weeks)
2017 07 Cry Wolf | 1 | 7-... (1+ weeks)

The fifth and final new entry in this week's top 10 (blimey) comes from Isac Elliot, a Finnish popstar who made his debut in 2013 with #3 hit New Way Home. Up to now, Isac's scored six top 10s, although he's yet to score a #1 hit, peaking at #2 twice. His most recent top 10 came last year, with #5 hit Worth Something. New single SHE doesn't come close to that but debuts respectably at #9.

Isac Elliot
2013 03 New Way Home | 1 | 4-6-3-6-11-17-24-31-34-39-40-X (11 weeks)
2013 02 A.N.G.E.L | AT | 2-3-6-9-17-27-34-X (7 weeks)
2013 16 Paper Plane | AT | 16-21-36-X (3 weeks)
2013 31 First Kiss | 2 | 31-X (1 week)
2013 03 Dream Big | 3 | 9-3-8-14-21-33-X (6 weeks)
2014 36 Are You Gonna Be My Girl | PS | 36-X (1 week)

2015 06 Lipstick (feat. Tyga) | NAS | 9-6-10-14-22-28-32-X (7 weeks)
2016 05 Worth Something | 1 | 36-5-11-21-23-33-X-9-6-8-12-22-33-39-X (13 non-consecutive weeks)
2016 23 What About Me | 2 | 25-23-X (2 weeks)
2016 20 Beast (Tungevaag & Raaban feat. Isac Elliot) | FEAT | 29-20-28-X (3 weeks)
2017 09 SHE | 1 | 9-... (1+ weeks)

Elsewhere this week, there are SEVEN other new entries in an extremely and unusually busy week. A new album from Michael Schulte sees its title track debut at #15, and New Hope Club's debut EP sees Fixed become their highest peaking track so far, new at #19. The Tide enter at #12 with Survive, a b-side to Put the Cuffs On Me.

Niall Horan debuts at #27 with Slow Hands, much lower than the #5 peak achieved by This Town but with lots of potential to climb. Shakira also charts for the first time since 2014, as Me Enamoré enters at #39, her first Spanish track to make my top 40.

DJ Fabian Mazur makes his chart debut this week at #38, alongside chart veteran Greyson Chance. Sara Bareilles enters at #33 with 10 year old track Gravity, after it got used on Britain's Got Talent and I rekindled my love for it. Finally, we see Manel Navarro re-enter at #31 with Do It for Your Lover, the Spanish Eurovision entry. Expect more Eurovision impact next week, as well as further impacts from Harry Styles and FO&O's albums.

Hi Joseph

Wow that's a lot of new entries ohmy.gif it's like a chart from 15 years ago lol

The only ones I actually know/like are Jonas Blue and Niall. 'Mama' is pretty good, probably my favourite Jonas Blue song to date (although that's not saying much!) despite the slightly cringeworthy lyrical theme! 'Slow Hands' is actually really good, I'm surprised you've charted it so low, I much prefer it over 'This Town' - the chorus is lovely, and it has a sort of 80s feel to the melody, and he also sounds great on it! Although again slightly odd title and chorus lyrics...

Hey Joseph,

Not yet heard your #1 but I've heard of it if that makes sense.

Didn't spot The Vamps at the top last week but I would like the, to get another hit if possible and not flop.

Jonas Blue Top 5 straight away? ohmy.gif

I wish AJR had a stronger impact on you with Weak. laugh.gif

Hi Joseph!

What are your thoughts on Harry's album? I think it's a strong debut, giving a nice insight into the music Harry presumably grew up listening to, plus it's great to hear so many classic rock influences on a pop record. It's probably more of an album you'd chill out to and appreciate all the little details of, opposed to listening to individually. That said, I can pinpoint some songs that are particularly standing out to me - 'Carolina' and 'Kiwi'. I'd say the former stands a good chance at being the next single. 'Meet Me in the Hallway' is a lovely opener too; I love the combination of guitar twangs and psychedelic atmosphere. Of course, 'Sign of the Times' remains the ultimate best and I do have to admit I'm a little disappointed that no other song on the album comes close to matching that epic, grand scale sound.

Hi Joseph,

Nice entry for Shakira but I hope she comes back to her old music, the best thing about the video is her boyfriend laugh.gif

Symphony dropping hard cry.gif

Niall entering wub.gif That should have been the first single, very good chorus although the begining of the song sounds a bit strange huh.gif

Hi Joseph!

tongue.gif at your highest climber being your only climber laugh.gif

Just given that Perttu song a listen bc I liked Waves from BJSC, it's not as good as that but still decent! Do you know if it's going to be pushed with a video or anything?

Mama entering high! ohmy.gif Wonder if it'll climb, it was a grower for me!

Do It For Your Lover re-entering, I can actually comment on it now Eurovision's over! Definitely didn't deserve to be last, especially below Germany's cover of Titanium kink.gif

Great chart biggrin.gif

Hey Mango, thanks for commenting biggrin.gif A very busy week indeed, unusually busy but my next chart is sure to be just as hectic I think laugh.gif

Mama is definitely my favourite Jonas Blue song so far, I've enjoyed the others but this one was incredibly instant! Slow Hands isn't quite clicking like This Town did, I'm not revisiting it so much, but I am enjoying it!

Sadly I think Middle of the Night's time may be over already, Capital have dropped it and the 59p price tag's been removed sad.gif Such a shame!

Hey Liam, thanks for the comments!

I really enjoy the album, I suppose that's not a surprise haha! I agree that I think it's made for listening in full really, and I've done that a good few times myself so I'm pretty familiar with it overall. Carolina is a favourite of mine too, seems to be quite high up most people's rankings, and I'd pick Two Ghosts to join it. Kiwi doesn't quite hit the spot for me but it's not really my thing, I can appreciate it for what it is though. Meet Me in the Hallway makes for a great album opener, it's like a warm-up track before the grand Sign of the Times and the rest of it, before From the Dining Table winds you back down. Sign of the Times does remain my favourite too, would've loved more songs in that vein but equally I do enjoy how varied the album is, without losing the concept of it being a body of work!

Hi Joseph!

tongue.gif at your highest climber being your only climber laugh.gif

Just given that Perttu song a listen bc I liked Waves from BJSC, it's not as good as that but still decent! Do you know if it's going to be pushed with a video or anything?

Mama entering high! ohmy.gif Wonder if it'll climb, it was a grower for me!

Do It For Your Lover re-entering, I can actually comment on it now Eurovision's over! Definitely didn't deserve to be last, especially below Germany's cover of Titanium kink.gif

Great chart biggrin.gif

Hey Pete, thanks for the comments! biggrin.gif

Ha, normally when I've got loads of new entries, it makes it difficult to allow for climbers! FO&O definitely benefiting from the album's release.

I think he's already moved on to the next single, shame because I'm really enjoying Good Good still, I prefer it to Waves in fact!

Do It for Your Lover was sadly screwed over by a really poor performance from Manel, and I say this as someone who's been a fan of him for a short while sad.gif he's definitely done better performances than he did last Saturday night! Nevertheless I really do enjoy the song, and it'll be making a nice gain in my next chart off the back of Eurovision (albeit not as big as I'd expected had his performance been better)!
