I just Googled him and the top result, ahead of his death, is still a story from yesterday saying he turned down a request for a campaign appearance for Theresa May. What a king.

(RIP)

What a day. Roger was my favourite Bond as a kid, he had such charm and charisma that just elevated every performance, even if some of his Bond films themselves left a lot to be desired at times. RIP.

Oh GOD. I knew it was coming, the recent images of him looked like he may already have been dead, but consider me BEREFT. Such an icon and easily my favourite Bond and one of my all time favourite HUMAN BEINGS.

Amazing actor, The Saint, and the 60s TV series The Persuaders, a great icon

RIP

Sean Connery must be about the same age.

I was speaking to Jark about this only a couple of weeks ago, we must have tempted fate suggesting Sean looked like he was about to cark it any second.

Sean Connery will be 86 in August, I knew there was a couple of years between them

Sad news to hear. My uni actually awarded him an honorary doctorate the year I graduated (he wasn't at my ceremony though, but we did have Sebastian Faulks, the author of Bird Song, who also got one, and I briefly met him after). Loved him as Bond and also in Spiceworld. RIP.

Legend! All his Bond featurings have been an essential part of my life. I had no idea he was as old as 89 though, I thought more 82.

RIP

I'm not the greatest expert of James Bond but I imagine he is to the franchise, what Patrick Troughton is to Doctor Who. He was able to carry on the franchise and establish it as a role that others could also take on and develop in their own way. George Lazenby may have been the second Bond, but he only starred in one film whereas, like Sean, Roger starred in many and was able to continue the success that Connery also saw. The franchise may not still be here today, or even the monster success it is today, without him. heart.gif

The all time James Bond he was. Would we still have had Bond if he hadn't joined as James Bond? I don't think we would.

Great actor, a national treasure

Two Bond themes that I'll forever associate with Sir Roger Moore.

It's hard to believe that for a film franchise that first started in 1962, that it wasn't until 55 years later in 2017 that the first actor to play James Bond in an official film passes away. I enjoyed him in Moonraker. RIP Roger.
