Hello all!

The Prime Minister has just confirmed live that the UK's threat level has been raised to Critical. This is the highest threat level the UK has. This means the security services, police and government believe that an attack on UK soil is 'imminent'. They believe that the Manchester attack may be linked in with a wider network. The most visible change is that the military will now be deployed to support the Police Forces across the UK at major events and likely at major transport hubs.

Please please please everyone take care and remain vigilant. If you see something suspicious report it to your local police force immediately. Staff safe Buzzjackers heart.gif

Has the threat level in the UK ever been raised to "Critical" in recent memory? I can't remember anything like it happening in my lifetime, although it possibly happened after 7/7, 9/11 as well?

Twice. Once in 2006 and once when the plot to take down airlines with liquid explosives first appeared.

It is the safe and logical thing to do really. Until we establish what part of network this attack was under then it's right to assume we are likely to be attacked again.

According to a Sky reporter, as of 2015 this operation that has been triggered may mean 5,000 members of the military are deployed on our streets. Fully expect Manchester to be crawling tomorrow. Armed police were absolutely everywhere today

At least they are all on the lookout and ready in case there is something more. I am scared that something else will happen but it's the right response.

So scary sad.gif but definitely the right call if there's a possibility that the suicide bomber wasn't working alone. Stay safe everyone.

This is so scary to think something could happen again, and anywhere at all. I really hope nothing else does, at least they are taking the right measures at a time like this.

Thankfully the emergency services around here were extremely prepared for this. They took over the Trafford Centre last year for a day, one of the largest Shopping Centres in Europe, to do a full scale terrorist drill. NWAmbulance, GMPolice & GMFire are all crediting these well laid plans and preparations for their ability to respond last night. That and their staff who poured in in their hundreds on days off to provide extra hands.

GM Health are reporting they turned away a considerable number of nurses who came in on their day off because they were overstaffed.

Stay safe everyone <3

I am so heartbroken since I've heard about the bomb last night sad.gif

I know this is not the right thread for me to post this but I am someone who witnessed war and slept in basement for months fearing the potential genocide, killing etc etc. I wouldn't wish those nights fearing death even to my worst enemy and let alone to innocent people.

I saw armed police in Glasgow yesterday and the train station was crawling with police too, I didn't see anything like that in Perth though but a few people have posted on Facebook that they've got armed officers walking the high street now and even East Kilbride has them at the shopping centre, it's not just the big cities they're upping security with anymore ohmy.gif

Well its a critical threat, you can't really expect them to only up security in the cities where millions live

Even if the city has like 500.000 inhabitabts, thats still 500.000 potential victims
