There was a loud thunderstorm overnight in the South-West and the lightning show was impressive to say the least.

However, it was startling and kept me awake for a while. To try and sleep I resorted to wearing a eye mask to block out the flashes.

I've never been a fan of thunderstorms, I sort of understand how they are caused, but I don't see the point of them and that sudden, unpredictable force which has the capability of killing you is something I fear.

What are your thoughts?

Don't really care as long as I'm not in a tent out in it. Then I'm definitely on the negative side.

I adore thunderstorms! I love extreme weather and if we get storms in the north west today I'll probably end up going out 'storm chasing' laugh.gif

Thunder music.gif

I find them exciting as we don't get them too often, but I'd probably hate them if they were to constantly disturb my sleep etc. laugh.gif

The thing with lightning is - if it misses you, you're safe, if it hits you, you'll be too dead to care... tongue.gif

It was cool seeing the flashes late last night. I enjoy them, an interesting part of the Earth's weather system.

I loooooooove thunderstorms!!

Had Thundersnow once which was seriously cool! My accommodation in Bris was on a hill and looked out over a bit of a valley and the thunderstorms were spectacular. They'd light up the whole valley! Was a great vantage point to watch them

Aren't you afraid of their consequences though? huh.gif

I also don't get how some people associate thunder with relaxation and tranquility. What's so calming about a rapturous roar in the sky???

I like it, but again it might be because it's uncommon and it's "nice" to hear uncommon sounds. Other than that I can't answer your question laugh.gif

I heard rather a lot of thunder in this part of the south-west. Plenty of lightning too but I was trying to get back to sleep so i had my eyes closed!

I don't mind little brief bouts but not really when they are on going for ages. I dislike Lightning as well as it keeps disturbing me when trying to sleep.

They can be lethal though, about two years ago one of the houses over the other side of my village was completely destroyed as it hit that area, thankfully no one was in the house though as they were on holiday.

It is worth mentioning here that the fresh smell that follows rain after a hot and dry spell is called petrichor from the Greek "divine blood of rock".

Thanks to Susie Dent for that snippet biggrin.gif

I just don't see what all the fuss is about, it's dangerous and disruptive if you're trying to sleep at night.
