11th June 2017

I was too young to have started my charting 50 years ago - but had there been streaming available to me it's pretty sure that The Beatles would have dominated both the real world and personal singles charts with Sgt Pepper. So it's only fitting that She's Leaving Home returns to number one 9 years since the last time it was on top, the best track on the classic album that can still top the UK album chart half a century on. Just to put that in some sort of perspective that would have been unthinkable in 1967, not least because recorded music didn't stretch back half a century in any lastingly popular sense. Songs did, but not recorded music as an art form.

The Hollies finally get that Black Dress into my top 10 after 45 years patiently waiting, and in a quiet week for movement the highest new track is a Glen Campbell classic 60's track that has never charted, but is on his new album Adios/Hits double-pack: Dreams Of The Everyday Housewife was on the first album that I owned, This Is Glen Campbell, I was mad on him as a kid. He also enters with a song that I loved at that period, a cover of the Nilsson hit, Everybody's Talking from the movie Midnight Cowboy, and is one of the last tracks Glen recorded for his final album.

Fleetwood Mac have 2 new tracks joining their Rumours classic (The Chain) though they are labelled Buckingham/McVie. Don't trust labels, the Mac did some of them at their last concert at the O2 - I was there! And finally, Scissor Sisters pop back (with MNDR) after being away a while, hooray! 13 years since they first topped my chart....

Hi jason,

yes I'm a Beatles fan - don't have everything theyve ever done, but a good proportion of it laugh.gif

Noel's the better songwriter, Liam's the better singer, that's why they should get back together, and stop being stroppy with each other teresa.gif

Not been to Italy since ooh 1997, but Occidentali's been growing on me - it was the fave to win the contest beforehand, and now Ive played them a lot I think it's probably the best record of 2017 in the contest, though not the best performance (which was Portugal). I am in Copenhagen on Thursday (and Malmo after that) so maybe I'll get some good Euromusic tips!

Thanks!

Thanks Toffo! Glad you like the Glen tracks, he's really quite far gone now, tragically, but I've loved him since I was 11 years old, big big fan as a kid and not-a-kid smile.gif

Roulette is the most obvious next single to me, hope Katy goes for it!

Cheers!

Hey Roba! smile.gif

Classic is a fab tune, better than some previous dreadful songs with the same title getting a bit above themselves (cue Adrian Gurvitz)!

Wall Of Glass is very very Oasis, prob why I like it so much biggrin.gif

Bon Appetit has continued to grow on me, but I don't like the lyrics much - maybe thats what is putting people off, the image of her lying on a table prepared for a "buffet" laugh.gif

Ooh Guns n Roses, never seen them in concert, lucky sister!

Cheers!
