Never, ever express that opinion within earshot of a Liverpudlian or Merseyside.

Criminal charges should be brought if someone has been found to be criminally negligent or has broken the law through the cover-up/leaking to the press that truly abhorrent set of quotes behind the S*ns infamous front page. 96 people died. It is absolutely correct that justice is served for them and their families.

95 counts of Manslaughter by Gross Negligence for the Match Commander (96th count cannot go through as the death wasn't until 4 years later and a high court order needs to be applied for to remove a private prosecution in 1999 for that count so that he can be charged with the 96th count)

Former Ch Insp of South Yorks Police will be charged for his lies to the scum newspaper.

4 others will be charged.

Absolutely 110% the correct decision.

How can anyone argue that this was accidental and nobody is culpable?! Things like that don't just happen, it was down to complete negligence, so why shouldn't charges be made?

The sad thing is that attitudes towards football supporters prevalent before Hillsborough are still there underneath the surface. I'm not sure if many people posting on this thread realise that. The fact is Hillsborough happened due to people viewing all football supporters as potential hooligans. Hence the perimeter fencing and archaic stadiums we had until this disaster and the Taylor Report.

Even today some people assume that because I'm a passionate West Ham supporter that I am a 'hooligan' or a thug. Football supporters are still treated with suspicion and contempt by sections of society and in particular those uneducated and intimidated by them. I can only assume that some on this site will hold those attitudes.

These people are the first to blame England supporters for example if any trouble happens abroad and overlook the actions of police there. At Euro 2016, there were incidents involving fans from Croatia, Hungry, Germany, Russia and Ukraine yet press coverage largely centred on English fans behaviour in Marseille and the potential for trouble between English, Russian and Welsh supporters in Northern France. The point I'm trying to make is that people who rightly exonerate Liverpool fans of any blame at Hillsborough are the first to stick the knife in elsewhere. Trouble on a Saturday night in town is treated as normal whereas football supporters are demonised - surely it should be treated with similar principles?

Anyway, justice has happened far too late. But let's not ignore the attitudes that caused the disaster are still prevalent in society today.

Deleted. No point where on a forum I'm not allowed a different viewpoint to everyone else.

I'm sure too that Heysel and the Liverpool fans reputation made this cover-up more believable. Especially to the general public who didn't attend football matches.
