So we're over halfway through the year, and it's the perfect time to reflect on our favourite songs, albums and other music moments from 2017 so far. How's everything shaping up compared to last year? Are you excited for anything forthcoming?

Songs

2016 felt a bit slow on the songs front for me at various moments but there's been a load of amazing tracks so far this year. I guess it's no surprise to anyone that my favourite song of the year so far is Harry Styles' Sign of the Times, and it'd take something massive to shift that by the end of the year. A selection of favourites, in no real order:

Anne-Marie - Ciao Adios
Anton Hagman - Kiss You Goodbye
Cheat Codes feat. Demi Lovato - No Promises
FO&O - Gotta Thing About You
Harry Styles - Sign of the Times
Louisa Johnson - Best Behaviour
Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared to Be Lonely
Martin Garrix & Troye Sivan - There For You
Nemo Schiffman - I Don't Mind
Robin Schulz, David Guetta & Cheat Codes - Shed a Light

And numerous others!

Albums

Last year had some amazing albums for me, from the likes of Benjamin, Ariana Grande and Fifth Harmony, and so far this year is probably on par. Again, my favourite album of the year so far is Harry Styles' debut. Although, away from my big faves, it's been a very quiet year I think. Some faves:

Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa
Ed Sheeran - ÷
FO&O - FO&O
Harry Styles - Harry Styles
Katy Perry - Witness
Lorde - Melodrama
Zara Larsson - So Good

Shout out to Bebe Rexha's All Your Fault: Pt. 1 EP too heart.gif

Other

I've been to a few concerts so far this year - X Factor live tour, Zara Larsson, Ryan Lawrie (including meet and greet), The Tide, Ed Sheeran, The Vamps, Bebe Rexha and Shawn Mendes, all have been really good but I'd say my favourites were probably Bebe and Ryan, the latter for the entire experience of the meet and greet, making friends, and generally just forgetting about everything else for the entire night. Future gigs I have booked are Dua Lipa and Little Mix, both in November!

I'm really excited to hear The Vamps' new album in a couple of weeks, and I'm ready for Taylor's return soon too, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Songs
There's honestly been a real lack of stand-out songs for me this year. I guess it's maybe because I had my Song of the Year all the way back in January last year in '7 Years', and whilst there have been some decent songs, I honestly can't pick an EOY #1, and I don't think any even come close to my Top 10 last year. That said, these are my faves:

Declan McKenna - The Kids Don't Wanna Come Home
Alle Farben & Janieck - Little Hollywood
Sheppard - Keep Me Crazy
Alessia Cara - Seventeen

And a number of dance tracks that were amazing at the time but won't be in contention for the EOY prize.

Albums
nah.

Well, I only listen to albums from artists where I know/like a good number of the songs (such as Clean Bandit, Nico & Vinz, Lukas Graham, Avicii) and unfortunately none of them have releaed an album this year sad.gif In fact, the only new album I've heard in full this year is Mike & the Mechanics' Let Me Fly, and that's hardly going to be an amazing discovery for me.

I've got my eyes fixed on Avicii, although new Lukas Graham wouldn't go astray (watches as they undoubtedly push their SIXTH single from this album)

In regards to albums, I See You, Tears on the Dancefloor & Melodrama probably make up my holy trinity of 2017 so far. Blondie and Harry Styles also produced really great albums this year.

Song-wise, 'Scared of the Dark' and 'Be the One' have had huge staying power for me. The reaction is incredible when they're played in my town on nights out; just effortlessly catchy pop songs that fill me with such joy and have choruses I just want to bellow out. Not a Chainsmoker-style breakdown in sight, too!

Scared of the Dark
Cut To The Feeling
Swish Swish
Life's About To Get Good
Say I'm Not Alone
The Cure

Albums

John Mayer - The Search For Everything

I did think this year had been pretty weak so far but this past month or so has really impressed me, especially most of the albums. The rest of the year promises to be great with upcoming releases from artists that I love like Haim, Lily Allen, Nicki Minaj and Lana Del Rey.

Anyway, here's a selection of a few of my faves so far that are surely going to be in my EOY heart.gif

SINGLES --
French Montana feat. Swae Lee - Unforgettable
Haim - Want You Back
Katy Perry - Chained to the Rhythm
Lady Gaga - The Cure
Lana Del Rey feat. The Weeknd - Lust For Life
Little Mix - Touch
Miley Cyrus - Malibu

ALBUMS --
alt-j - RELAXER
Harry Styles - Harry Styles
Lorde - Melodrama
Royal Blood - How Did We Get So Dark?
Stormzy - Gang Signs & Prayer
The xx - I See You

I never got around to listening to the Kendrick Lamar album despite liking "To Pimp a Butterfly", oooops.

I was thinking that too. Even though there's been a handful of really great album this year, it feels like there's been a lot of notable album releases in this first half of the year (much more than we are used to in an era where most big names wait until the run up to Christmas) so I kinda expected myself to like more of them. However, there's a few names currently working on new music that, fingers crossed, should be out before the year's end: Kylie, Paloma, P!nk, Lily Allen etc.

TLC have single-handedly saved this year for me! Their album is amazing. Also Mary J. Blige released another great album, her album in 2014 is the only one of hers I don't like so this was a great recovery. Looking forward to albums from Mariah, Xtina and Shania but I have my doubts the first two will actually see the light of day this year sad.gif Also Brandy's long overdue a new album so hopefully she releases something too.

Songs

TLC - Way Back
TLC - Perfect Girls
TLC - American Gold
TLC - Joy Ride
Mariah Carey - I Don't (feat. YG)
Mary J. Blige - U + Me (Love Lesson)
Mary J. Blige - Indestructible
Sir the Baptist - Deliver Me (feat. Brandy)
Lecrae - I'll Find You (feat. Tori Kelly)
Shania Twain - Life's About To Get Good
Nelly Furtado - Magic

Albums

TLC - TLC
Mary J. Blige - Strength of a Woman

I loved Too Much, it sounded like it was going to be a big hit, especially with the rise of male singer songwriters at the time like Hozier and George Ezra (Too Much sounded much better than their songs though) but didn't really take off.

(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano is a very good track too, maybe not up to the very high level of Too Much though.
