- artists changing the structure of their song weeks after the release of it just as you're getting used to the original version (hello Cloudbusting / On My Mind)
- artists adding songs to their album well after it's already been released (Kanye West, Shawn Mendes, Future)
- artists releasing a song with the intention of putting it on their album, then the song not making the cut because it flopped or some other reason (and even worse when they take it off all streaming and download platforms as well - hello DJ Khaled (although I'm not a fan of 'To The Max'))
- more and more dance acts releasing music that is more pop than it is dance, where are the bangers at?? (don't get me wrong a lot of these dance-pop songs are done really well but for every good one there's two I give a pass to)
- artists delaying their album for ages because their last single didn't do as well as the label thought it would

what are some of the worst trends in music in 2017?

I'm still conflicted with The Chainsmokers. They have some great songs (yes, even 'Paris') but their album tracks are no.

- Conor Maynard being on every flop dance song.
- That exact same generic dancehall beat that's on so many songs these days.
- Boring future bass drops.
- Releasing on a day that isn't Friday

People with weird names... like all caps, missing/replaced letters, numbers etc. It's so annoying! Like leave that on Tumblr. For example ZAYN, ALMA, dvsn, 6LACK. Stop trying to be ~edgy~.

Choruses don't seem to exist these days! It's just a screamy voice and/or a dancey beat idk lol they all sound the same. I can't listen to The Cure because of it! It's in basically every song.

- Ed Sheeran
- Insistence on finding the "next ed Sheeran"
- Songs designed solely to be a Spotify hit (looking at you Dance music)
- Generic landfill dance tracks with no defining features
- Insistence on sending the above to BJSC
- Travis trying to enter Blackpink
- Keisha Buchanan saying "soon"

oh yeah that's annoying too. like what is the actual point of releasing on a Tuesday or Thursday?? wacko.gif the whole point of New Music Friday is that people release their new music on Friday so people get excited for Friday and seek out new music.

Yeah that's an odd one but Spotify tends to keep track of midweek releases anyway and puts them into their New Music Friday playlist.

I can't even at this being such an issue

With the music industry finally waking up to globalisation and the digital market, there's gonna be out of sync releases because they're being released for their home market chart and not ours. They've just stopped holding them back and doing the releases over a week because someone finally underf***ingstands that doing that increases the piracy demand.

So it's either a Thursday release (the horror) or a Friday release and a loss of revenue through legitimate channels. Their profit trumps your desire that everything must happen on the same day. Life is messy and until ever chart around the world is in sync then this ain't gonna change

Agreed. The worst ones are what seem to be a bunch of letters randomly hit on the keyboard... no one is going to remember it either laugh.gif

Also the kind of sound in popular music like in that Issues song I keep hearing on teh radio.

Pretty much every market is adapted to Friday releases these days, the major ones at least! Which makes it baffling for artists like Demi Lovato releasing on a Tuesday when the tracking week for downloads and streams begins on a Friday in her home market, the US. Ultimately though it's not a big deal because the vast majority of songs climb to their peaks anyway!

As for me, a trend I really hate is lazy artworks that look like this, with the smartphone texting theme:

I've seen that SO many times on various single covers - G.R.L. and Tinie Tempah being other offenders but there's definitely a few more I've seen. It was perhaps fun the first time round but now it's so lazy drama.gif

That's not really a trend, there are hardly any songs that sound like Issues so it was refreshing for it to be a hit laugh.gif

I actually like most of the tropical kind of songs, even if they're generic af they're listenable at least but when James f***ing Blunt is doing them you know it's ridiculous :') The midweek releases are annoying too, it's not so much charts as getting on my OCD laugh.gif Ed Sheeran himself is a trend that needs to stop tbh
