What is the time?

We live in an age where time is one of the few things everybody shares in equal supply. Everybody is governed by the 24 hours that each day awards us, and many will check what the time is multiple occasions during a single day. I've created this thread to gauge people's opinions and choices in matters relating to time.

How do you check the time?

Do you prefer when the time is clearly on show in a room, maybe on a wall, or on a screen somewhere? Maybe you prefer to simply look at your phone or other handheld device. Perhaps you wear a timepiece such as a watch and use that to check what the time is. Or maybe, just maybe, despite having all the aforementioned options available to you, you are simply too lazy to check so you ask someone else to tell you what the time is.

How many occasions during the day will you check the time?

"Time is money" they say in the corporate world, and the rush to get things done to a schedule or deadline puts extra stress on ones to work hard and fast. Often such ones will check the time many occasions during the day. However, the casual time keeper may only glance a couple of times during a day if they don't have an routine or structure to adhere to.

Do you prefer analogue or digital timepieces?

Many do like the simplicity of looking at a clock face with two hands to see how fast or slow time is moving. This often can be a good fast way to judge how long is left before the clock hand strikes a new hour. Others much prefer a digital clock face which counts up the minutes and the seconds.

If you do prefer a digital timepiece, do you prefer the 12 or 24 hour setting?

One of the main features of a digital timepiece is to be able to see time in it's true 24 hour cycle. Not many like it when at 1pm the clock face says 1:00 and must prefer seeing 13:00 accurately displayed instead.

Have you ever tried to tell the time in other ways?

Some people can tell the time based on where the sun is in the sky during the day and may use a sundial to do this. Others can work out the time based on other natural resources such as when the tide goes in or out.

I'm sure all time lovers will have their own unique ways they check the time and how frequently too, but one thing stands and that is that time is a valuable commodity and we only get to use it once before it is gone.

If you have anything else of interest to add to this thread please do.

I have TWO watches (a Gucci one and a Fitbit so both quite pricey) yet I am terrible with remembering to wear them often. I'd say my laptop is my #1 source for checking the time at the moment (due to more free time in the summer holidays) and my phone #2. But it switches around while I'm at Uni. I have always had the habit of obsessively checking the time oops.

I'm guessing very few actually wear watches or check them when they want to know the time as they'd just look at their phone.

I wear a watch! It's a pink knock off fit bit as it's more precise when I need to time things at work. If I want to wear sth a bit nicer I have a watch with white straps and white marble face

Call me old fashioned but I always wear a watch and look at it regularly. I keep it two minutes fast so I'm less stressed when I have to be at appointments, for the same reason, my alarm clock is ten minutes fast so I can sleep for a bit before I wake up kink.gif and I have an additional analogue clock which is right alongside my laptop/TV/phone clocks in my room. I NEED TO KNOW THE TIME OK.

Ha, how I'd love to be able to use a sundial or ocean tides to tell the time, alas I don't live near them D:

Haven't worn a watch in years. On my days off it'll definitely be my laptop that I use to keep track of the time the most, at work there are various digital clocks around, a wall clock in the staff room and then the station radios (walkie talkies rather than something you can listen to Capital on x) also have the time on them.

I've just estimated 10-20 times for the amount I check the time a day laugh.gif It's hard to tell with how subconscious it can be. My Dad is awful for constantly checking the time even when we have nowhere to be and aren't in any rush

I have always kinda wanted an old fashioned pocket watch, such a granny at heart. But I feel like I wouldn't use it enough despite how nice I think they are!
