Apple are planning to discontinue the iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle - the company's last two music players without the ability to run streaming service Apple Music. The iPod Touch will still be a thing however.

I can see why and I don't use either product anymore but a part of me was like "aww" to see this news laugh.gif Probably because I was previously the owner of an iPod Nano three times - got a silver 3rd generation almost exactly 10 years ago for my 10th birthday (which was the coolest thing ever at the time), a pink 4th generation when I started secondary school and a pink 7th generation for Christmas 2012. I actually do still use an iPod touch, I have a pink one that I got last year because I still listen to my iTunes library on the go and wanted more storage away from my iPhone.

Do any of you guys still use an iPod? Perhaps previously owned one? Or do you just use your phone to listen to music on the go?

I could see this happening eventually. It's a shame, as I too owned a couple of generations of iPods and iPod Nanos before owning an iPhone. It was useful for working out at the gym or going on runs when I could simply strap it to my arm. I'm sad to see them go.

Never owned a shuffle though.

My first ever iPod was the shuffle, the 3rd generation. Yes, I was at that silly age where I thought it was 'cool' to have the smallest ever mp3 player that talks to you laugh.gif

I got the 5th gen Nano a few years later when I wanted a decent portable video player. I miss Vortex, there's not another app like it for iOS, apart from the basic Breakout but it isn't circular mad.gif

I also miss moving my finger around the whell. By the way, there's no feature to have the iPhone/touch tell you the song you're playing, that seemed to be only for that model of shuffle... :/

I'm not surprised they're discontinuing these. In fact I'm surprised they've last this long! Likewise with the iPod Touch considering it's basically just iPhone-lite. I don't think iPod Touch will be around for much longer either.

To answer the question in the OP, iPod Touch was my first Apple product like yeaaaars ago. But I sold it when I got an iPhone because it was effectively useless then.

I only ever went straight from the classic iPod to the Touch, so never had a nano/Shuffle phase. I can see why they've ditched it, as more people are streaming rather than downloading these days, but it's sad to see it going. I imagine the prices of these will skyrocket on eBay now.

Good point! I sold two of mine in the past but I think my 4th generation iPod nano is lying around somewhere, will hold on to that tongue.gif

(This news has made me re-watch the adverts for these which are proving very nostalgic. Especially this one)

screw you Apple I'm going to continue to try and get my dying Classic to work and as a result (of it not working) I'm just listening to less music overall.

Still using my 160GB classic, was gutted when they discontinued that. I keep worrying that the next iTunes update will make it non compatible with my beautiful classiq, never moving on. xx

The headphone jack on my classic actually got damaged so I'm using the 30 pin for listening with a 30 pin to 3.5mm aux cable connected to a physical volume gate/ fader and a double sided fem 3.5mm which then connects to headphones (you can tell it wasn't designed this way but it works perfectly x).

I've still got my 160GB classic too - works perfectly with excellent battery life still after about 7 years use. I would miss it very much if it were ever to die on me as it goes everywhere with me! : (

I only jumped on the iPod/iPhone craze two years ago so I never had one of the older models. Like those above I did find it interesting seeing what colours people had and they were all very aesthetically pleasing to look at wub.gif I've got an iPod touch (5th or 6th generation, can't remember) but it was to be expected they'd eventually phase the older models out.

It's the compulsory interconnectivity, I don't want my phone for music, I also don't want or need my music player to be connected, I did have a Shuffle once (not seen it for years) and it was just a really useful little gadget for putting a running playlist on, a Touch always seemed like an iPhone without the phone and therefore just a bit limp.

In good news, I finally managed to fix my acting up iPod Classic (only to finally crack the back of my iPhone the same afternoon, I thought I'd become good at avoiding that laugh.gif).

Just dug out my 4th generation for the first time in about 5 years (feat. Jadakissnia national anthem x) - the scrolling as opposed to touch screen was far more effort than I had remembered laugh.gif

(the time appears to be not at all accurate)
