So 'Break The Ice' seems to be topic of discussion of late on here. It certainly seems like the most marmite of her singles. It's one of my absolute faves, and I also love the video.

As the only video that doesn't feature Britney and one that I thinks slips under the 'radar' of any kind of comments of love or hatred due to it being anime. I pose this question to you all..

- If Britney was on top form and you had the chance to direct this video.. What would you have done?

Would you have kept the same storyline and gone for an irl version of it? Or something completely different?

Whilst on the topic:

Do you think the video hindered 'Break The Ice' in its chart performance?
Are you gutted the 'to be continued' hasn't been continued?
If you were to 'continue' from the songs released since which would you choose and what would happen?

Whilst I really love the storyline, I think as a live video it wouldn't work as well, and possibly come across as a 'Toxic Pt. 2', albeit a more sinister 'Blackout' type 'Toxic'

I'd have love to have seen something similar to 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'. Not the same story, but in a similar setting, with Britney attempting to literally "break the ice" with some kind of Snow King. I realise snow / ice is all quite literal, but shot-wise in my head it'd look stunning.

Yeah I would imagine/want some kind of snowy/icy landscape type of video. With Britney looking like some kind of snow goddess.

Sometihng like this look Alanis Morissette did for a single she was on

or Emily Blunt from Winter's War

Imagine this choreography set with one main back up dancer. The scene starts off black and white but flashes in drained color everytime the bridge and chorus hit. The main back up dancer is another Britney but a vintage version. During dancing there is chaos in the background. Paparazzi, fans, haters, etc. they are frozen in place watching the old Britney but she warms them up into forgetting about her and focusing on current Britney.

During the break at the end they multiply to several versions of her and then come together as one to form the Britney we see today.

Video ends with everyone freezing back into place as she exits scene.

I would...cancelled it and replaced with Radar as 3rd single from Blackout...i guarantee it would have been much bigger and then we wouldn't have to deal with it in Circus lol.

I love the futuristic feel of it, and I would have loved to see a live-action version as it will function as Toxic Pt. 2.

-

The first 30 seconds are scenes where she's in a ball/benefit (similar to Criminal only less Bonnie & Clyde). Britney is an assassin with a cybernetic eye sent to kill the head of the benefit for deep web robberies on international banks. She sees her target and the song starts ("It's been a while..."). The first verse consists of him walking around and her following and trying to keep an eye on him + some scenes of choreography during the first bridge and chorus.

He walks near the restrooms and into a secret hallway where only employees and security go. Second verse. She follows suit and her outfit changes into a white ensemble. Some scenes similar to where she was wall dancing in Me Against the Music. Second bridge. Some security guards pop up and a fight scene ensues. She manages to knock out the guards and enter a bedroom setting. She stumbles across several monitors hooked up onto the table. This is his home base.

"I like this part..."

Another 30 second scene ensues. He appears behind her.
- "Having fun?"
- "I guess you can say that."
He brushes the side of her neck.
- "You know, your skin is absolutely beautiful with this lighting. In fact..." *he slides a strap of her white dress off her shoulder* "Everything about you is beautiful."

Typical Britney video makeout scene ensues. After the chorus finishes the first time, he tells her "You know, when I imagined bringing a girl up here, I didn't dream it could be like this."

A grim smile purses through Britney's lips. She whispers into his ear, "Keep dreaming." and injects a lethal poison that paralyzes his body and slows his breathing until his body lays limp on the bed.

A red alarm light begins to emanate across the dim room. Muffled screams of "she's here!" and the tapping of the security guards' rough loafers can be heard from the background. A helicopter with a giant searchlight appears through the window. She opens the windows, steps back, and leaps off the building just as the security guards appear. The video ends with a ground shot of her diving out of the window in between the building and the helicopter with the sound of police sirens and helicopter blades in the background.

All this plus some scenes of her inside a white room with blue cyber patterned lights pulsating every once in a while in a white jumpsuit doing some moves similar to Toxic. Footage also includes several scientists in a room with clipboards studying her and scenes of her floating in mid-air.

-

It's a bit of a rough design but it looked so good in my head. The target was that this will do much better than it actually did and her team releases Radar as the fourth Blackout single.

I stated my reasons why, by having Radar on BO we would gain Unusual You or Shattered Glass as a single from Circus.

Or just tell bloodshy & avant to listen to the rest of the album again and understand their contract is rude to us.

Tbf, 'Radar' was definitely the right choice back when 'Blackout' was released. Had it been released as a single and was never put on 'Circus', I am 100% sure we'd all be feeling differently towards it.

I'd agree. But that's placing commercial appeal over quality. And I dont dislike radar, it's a bop. It's just a weaker bop in comparison to the rest of the album, for the most part.

I think Blackout appears very cursed with high quality and consistency that when trying to choose post-album release singles almost everything seems out of place. The first three songs made sense, and then it gets harder finding the happy medium between cohesion between the singles and what would appeal to the casual listener. Not everyone is a die-hard Britney fan, let alone one who can decipher and analyze her entire discography.

Back when I started checking popularity bars on iTunes (like around... March 2008), "Radar" was the fourth most-popular song purchased from Blackout, selling less than the previous two singles and "Break The Ice" which was slated to be the third single. By that logic, releasing "Radar" as a single after BTI made sense, despite it being weaker than some of the other songs on the album ("Toy Soldier"/"Hot As Ice", etc.). It's amazing and it was good enough to cross to the casuals then.

Essentially, there was room for both BTI and Radar to be singles, especially with the time frame between when BTI peaked and when Womanizer premiered. Radar could have seen a small release and it would have probably done as well as it actually did but it would have been nice to boost album sales, especially with Britney winning a couple VMA's that same summer. Keep the ball roling, and then Womanizer gets released. The Circus era would have gotten more momentum with this strategy and it would have helped Britney more in the long run in terms of figures and chart success.
