Wouldn't the Welsh singles chart be made up of mainly downloads? We are at the point where less than 300k download singles are sold weekly throughout the UK. If you take England, Scotland and N Ireland out of that 290k surely wont leave much for Wales.
So the songs charting there are probably 1 download. |

ChartsPlusUK says the following about the Scottish and Welsh charts: "PLEASE NOTE: Significantly reduced download data included"
Most of the titles that pop up in those charts are those that have physicals. For instance Padam Padam was #2 in Scotland (up from #52) and #3 in Wales (a re-entry) in the week the second cassette was released. |

How come Loving You peaked lower on the Download Chart than on the Singles Chart if it was only available for download? Honestly I have no idea... Official Singles Chart vs Download Chart 01 / 01 - Ellie Goulding - Burn 02 / 02 - Avicii - Wake Me Up [#6 on Physicals] 03 / 03 - Klangkarussell - Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) 04 / 05 - DJ Fresh - Earthquake 05 / 04 - Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness 06 / 06 - Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop 07 / 07 - Sean Paul - Other Side of Love 08 / 09 - Naughty Boy - Lifted 09 / 08 - Lady Gaga - Applause 10 / 10 - Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines 11 / 12 - Drake - Hold On We're Going Home 12 / 13 - One Direction - Best Song Ever [#1 on Physicals] 13 / 11 - Jay-Z - Holy Grail 14 / 17 - Matt Cardle - Loving You [21,963 sales] 15 / 14 - John Newman - Love Me Again 16 / 15 - Ray Foxx - Boom Boom (Heartbeat) 17 / 16 - Tinie Tempah - Trampoline [20,140 sales] 18 / 18 - Calvin Harris - Thinking About You 19 / 19 - Naughty Boy - La La La 20 / 20 - One Republic - Counting Stars 1,823 ahead of Tinie Tempah in the singles chart, yet Tinie Tempah was supposedly ahead on downloads. Beats me! As we can see there's other differences too... |

Maybe because for the singles chart the Spanish version was combined but the download chart they counted as two seperate downloads and songs at the time?

No Scrubs by TLC has been certified 4x platinum. I wonder what the gap is between the song and Wannabe?

Eek, that's only 9 weeks after Wannabe did it. No Scrubs went 3xPlatinum on 12th March 2021, so it has taken just 130 weeks for it to increase by another 600,000. Whereas Wannabe needed 190 weeks to increase from 3xPlat (15th November 2019) to 4xPlat (7th July 2023).
4,615 a week on average for TLC vs. 3,158 a week on average for Spice Girls. It could mean that Wannabe is less than 30,000 sales ahead of No Scrubs, currently. My estimate is that No Scrubs will overtake Wannabe sometime in January 2024. So we've not got long to savour Wannabe being the best selling girl group single in the UK. Although of course it always will be in terms of actual sales. No Scrubs' success in the streaming era is confusing to me... I mean sure it was a big hit in 1999, but nowhere near Wannabe levels. |

Personally I think No Scrubs is ok but the message of the song is bloody terrible lol I'm happy Wannabe is at least a positive anthem! |

Spotify is American based in terms of popularity, loads of the big playlists are US based. It gets huge playlisting because of that.
The worst example of US playlisting effecting the UK is at Xmas where random Christmas songs chart in the UK as they are by US artists on playlists created by US Spotify. This post has been edited by sammy01: 9th September 2023, 12:50 PM |

I have a bit of a random question, but hopefully someone can help... I was looking at Chartmasters website which compiles and analyses sales and chart positions of albums and they have breakdowns of Spice Girls ones for over the years...
I will go into the details about their data at another point (which is out of date since this was published in 2017 and they do recognise that it is mainly on estimates from the data they specifically point out in the breakdowns) Now look into the comments sections in the main page of the Spice breakdowns: But I wanted to ask about BMG and Music Clubs (specifically the Britannia Music Clubs)... What the hell are music clubs? A few comments on this specific page seem to suggest that there is sales data that is relative only to BMG and the Britannia Music Club data that is somehow lost and not accounted for in the Official Charts. Some comments - and validated by Chartmasters editors own responses - point towards around 200,000 'shipments' made by these Music Clubs in the UK for Spice at least... Any ideas? Here is the Chartmasters Spice analysis: https://chartmasters.org/cspc-spice-girls-p...arity-analysis/ This post has been edited by Mr.X: 21st September 2023, 09:45 PM |

It was a basically like buying direct from the label but you had to buy so many. You paid a set amount each month and got to pick say 3 CDs and VHS from a glossy book of titles. You had to have them each month and if you didn't pick I seem to remember they just sent you whatever titles they wanted.
So it might have been lets say £25 a month for 3 VHS or CDs which were well above £10 each at the time. It was cheaper as it was cutting out Asda or HMV the middle man that put their own profit on the cost of a CD. They were sent directly to your home via post so weren't scanned over a till and thus didn't count as a sale for the charts. It was very big in the US some US albums have a good couple of million extra sales on their certs from the time from it. No way of knowing how many sales were sold like that in the UK I believe apart from obviously the label getting a cert from shipment than actual over the counter sales. |

Wannabe is back in the top 20 on the vinyl singles sales chart at #19. Has charted the last three weeks 21-24-19.
It has a very impressive chart run on the vinyl singles chart (though obviously very small sales each week) after the picture disc release 2 years ago. It must be in print still as it is always in stock on their official store, HMV and Amazon (where I assume most of its sales comw from). |

I think SUYL would do well with a 7 inch vinyl that is constantly stocked and printed. 2 become 1 too with its Christmas connection and Mama with its yearly mothers day boost.

Looking back at some old charts I have, #74 in the sales chart could be 400-ish sales, taking into account it was a busy week with numerous National Album Day titles ahead of it (it was the 21st best seller of NAD releases).
