We've had a country name rate and I was wondering how you came up with yours. Please tell me it's a more interesting concept than mine, which I literally took out of thin air as far as I can remember cos apparently at the time it sounded acceptable enough for a country name to me. Was just kinda playing around with letters. Later I found out it's a girl's name, which I find kinda cool actually. The odd time I almost imagine that all my votes are put together by this mysterious girl named Deandria and that my fictional country is her vision come to life tongue.gif

I wanted to incorporate my name into the country somehow so people would instantly associate this country name with me. I'm sure some people are still a bit unsure about the posters that are behind certain countries so I wanted mine to stand out in that way. 'Jade' didn't quite work, so I incorporated 'Jadakiss' a nickname of mine, then just added the generic 'nia' to make it sound like a country.

Zanmato was a special move by the aeon Yojimbo on Final Fantasy X, my all time favourite game. I named my country after this special move which would always guarantee an instant kill no matter who the opponent. It wouldn't happen all the time, as his moves were selected at Ramos, but when that it did happen, it was a great feeling to know that victory was imminent.

Zanmatony likes to believe that someday they will secure their first victory too. biggrin.gif

I got Hushkanukia from what I could remember from Maddie in Suite Life of Zach and Cody saying pretending to be a Swedish Woman.

Iconic

(pronounced Hoosh-can-ook-A-ah, not Hush-an-ook-A-ah)

Named after the Greek queen of the underworld Persephone. I just stole it off Tirren and Leww who posted that name all the time for reasons I don't remember and I thought it sounded cool. x

(Egabbac was obviously a way better name, it was the word 'cabbage' spelt backwards)

Bota means World in albanian but I thought it was too short, and eventually that week I was in Botanical Garden in Dubai and thought it might be cool to go for Botanikka (now stylized as Bøtanikkä)

Ashton has no rhyme or reason.

Áskorza is Ashtonise for "unfairly judged to be of unsuitable temperament"

Terra Avium is Latin for 'land of birds' which fits in with my general theme, however it seems to actually be incorrect and be 'Terra Aves' so Google Translate must have been lying to me around the time I thought the name up thinking.gif It's stuck though, except for a brief period when dinosaurs took over.

It's a common misconception that I created Séyetana because the first part was Eyes backwards and I was called Eyes at the time. In fact, as far as I remember, that was a complete coincidence and I only noticed it a couple of months later when someone like Pavel pointed it out (so, there may have been some subconscious choosing but I didn't INTEND it to be like that). I was just playing around with random names and near enough the entire thing came into my head fully formed, like a vision.

The one thing I changed from that initial flash of inspiration was to add an accent onto the first é because I figured it was a nice way to make my country name look fancy while also probably being the easiest accented letter to type so it wasn't too rough on hosts/other participants.

I wanted to include part of my username into my country name (Klum) and then tried to find a real country to make a pun with it (Dominican Republic) hence Kluminican Republic!

That's absolutely my favourite thing about (coming up with) titles, the way they just come seemingly from nowhere but end up having layers that the person maybe didn't even intend to put there, as well as a meaning that fits in some way.

Rontvia was my town name in Animal Crossing on the Gamecube, back in the early 00s. I just carried it over from there and added the FSR (Former Scandinavian Republic) as I wanted it to sound closely affiliated with Scandinavia.

Pronunciations are important too, there's a few countries I'd struggle to pronounce without someone telling me.

In the case of Iz~ am I right to assume the country is pronounced "Say-Uh-Tay-Nah" ? unsure.gif

Danaelanda, was meant to be Danieland (Daniel Land) but that looked too basic so swapped the 'i' for an 'a' and added an extra 'a' at the end. It's pronounced 'Dan-Ay-Lan-Da'.

The South Danaelanda rebrand was off the back of when I DNQ'd a year back and wanted to see a new vision for the nation's prospects, which worked as we ended up getting 10 qualifications in a row (again)! It was originally meant to be a short term thing but it's sticking now.
