More than 50 people have been killed and hundreds injured in a mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert.
A gunman, named as 64-year-old Nevada resident Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel towards an open-air music festival attended by 22,000.
Police say he killed himself as officers stormed the room where 10 guns were found.
The attack is the worst mass shooting in recent US history.
US President Donald Trump tweeted his "warmest condolences and sympathies" to the victims and their families, and called the shooting "terrible".
Sheriff Joe Lombardo described the shooting as a "lone wolf" attack and there was no information about Paddock's motives.
"We have no idea what his belief system was," he said.

A woman thought to have been travelling with the gunman before the attack, Marilou Danley, has now been located outside the country, Sherriff Lombardo said.
A police statement said the shooting began at 22:08 local time on Sunday (05:08 GMT on Monday). Paddock came from Mesquite, some 60 miles (100 km) north-east of Las Vegas, and had resided in the hotel since 28 September.
Police say at least 200 people were injured. Fire officials said 406 people were taken to hospital.

So sad, especially that it often seems to be music festivals/concerts that get targeted. sad.gif

Very sad, RIP to all the victims.

However unfortunately these attacks are just going to keep on happening until guns are banned. Honestly the fact you can walk in to Walmart and buy a gun is disturbing. Imagine walking in to Tesco and coming home with a handgun like it was a part of normality. It's crazy.

That would be bad enough, but this man had an automatic weapon which enabled him to kill and wound on such a massive scale. How can anyone possibly justify allowing a private individual to own such a weapon? It makes no sense at all.

Indeed, the ease of purchase is just baffling. I wonder what drove someone in their 60s to suddenly do something like this - not that it really matters what age the perpetrator was, just seems unusual.

It doesn't matter how often these things happen, it still shocks me every time I read about something like this.

it stresses me out because i just CAN'T understand the logic behind it at all and the fact that the president supports it too (not that it's surprising but STILL)

I echo everyone in expressing my horror at this attack. At least 58 dead in a senseless attack, when all they wanted to do was enjoy a concert.

Understanding America's relationship with guns is much more simple once you realise that to Americans, gun ownership is a belief system, akin to its state religion. Logical argument is not going to make a difference, and any change, no matter how small and insignificant, will be met by open hostility by a large proportion of the population as a result. When something is so important to your self-actualisation, no amount of violence and horror perpetrated by it is going to make you change your mind.

I'd love to see America restrict its gun ownership, but unless if can be subtly done in a way that doesn't upend its veneration of the Almighty Colt, it's not going to happen.

And Las Vegas is probably the busiest state. I still don't know how a 62 year old did that in the first place, but as Dandy said, you could crack anytime whatever age you are.

Up to 59 deaths, and 527 injured, the deadliest mass shooting in US history sad.gif

Honestly how on earth have they not seriously sorted gun control in the US, I don't get what has to happen for them to realise it :/
