Today, October 4th, marks the 10 year anniversary of the BBC Music Introducing system which showcases and gives opportunity to unsigned new and upcoming artists on the music scene.

Artists have been able to upload their music onto the Introducing website and then, depending on the region, it will be listened to by a member of the BBC Music team. Jo Whiley stated this morning on Radio 2 that every song that is uploaded gets listened to (what a job to have!).

If it's liked enough, then usually it gets passed on to the local BBC Radio station and gets a spin on their Introducing shows, which can then mean crossing over onto Radio 1 for Huw Stephens' show or even featuring on Radio 1 or 1Xtra's playlists. Radio 2, 6 Music, Radio 3 and the Asian Network can also pick up tracks through the service.

To mark the occasion, today is BBC Music Introducing Day, with Radio 1 broadcasting a one-off gig from the O2 Academy Brixton tonight featuring artists including George Ezra, Everything Everything, Blossoms and Slaves and will be airing from 7pm. The full show will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from this Friday and of course to listen to tonight on the iPlayer Radio.

Special videos and exclusives are being put online on a special Introducing Day website, and Local Radio stations across the country which all have weekly BBC Introducing shows are joining in the celebrations too.

The BBC Introducing system has brought us many of the acts we know and love today including Florence + The Machine, James Bay, The 1975, Marina and the Diamonds, Jake Bugg, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Izzy Bizu and so many more.

It's crazy to think Florence, Marina or The 1975 probably wouldn't have even happened without them being able to upload a song onto the Radio 1 website. ohmy.gif
