hi.gif

oh nooo I wanted to find the iconic banner dandy* made for this but it disappeared with Photobucket closing!

Now that we've all mourned about the banner (it's probably still out there somewhere tbf), welcome to the results of NMTBJ! Everything is pretty much prepared so I'm ready to go whenever people would like! Preferably though I'd like to get this finished before the DFSC results start, which will be from around 7pm.

I hope you guys enjoyed this round, it was difficult for some but not so difficult for others - I guess we will find out more on that soon happy.gif Good luck!

Yeah was hella hard for me but I think I've done slightly better on this one than the previous instalment including getting the last one!

But I feel I'm gonna kick myself for a few of the earlier ones as I definitely recognise them.

I'm tempted to start at 3 now since you're one of the most active commentators usually and it would be a shame if you missed out by one hour lol. I'm sure I'll be able to finish them before 7 even in that case.

1. goldfrapp – number 1

Released: 2005
Album: Supernature
UK Singles Chart: #9

Correct: Dan, Dalek, Liam, dandy*
Annie – My Love Is Better: Jade
The Killers: Rollo
CHVRCHES: Riser
Owl City: Froot
OMD: Pete
Something from the 80s: Chez
no answer: Spadam, Harry, Oliver, Theo, Bré, Sarah, Jacob, Dobbo

What else could I have used to kick off this quiz than my favourite of the songs aptly titled ‘Number 1’? Off the top of my head, I can’t even recall any other songs with this name, other than that Eurovision winner from many years ago which I actually quite liked too (not as much as Goldfrapp’s song but it was catchy x). This is a fun and even euphoric electropop tune that I’ve loved for many years. As noted above, it’s from their 2005 album ‘Supernature’ (a very glam and synth influenced affair, which this track is a good indicator of), but this year they released their latest album ‘Silver Eye’ which I’m still sort of getting used to. ‘Anymore’ and ‘Everything Is Never Enough’ are highlights for me from the new one though.

The rather bizarre video features a dancing Alison Goldfrapp and lots of dogs x

Four people get this. Among other guesses, Chez guesses it to be something from the 80s, which does make sense as Goldfrapp are influenced by 80s synthpop and the like.

Poor Tinchy Stryder ft. N-Dubz. : (

The Tweenies also had a Top 5 hit with the same title.

2. fka twigs – two weeks

Released: 2014
Album: LP1
UK Singles Chart: #200 (eek)

Correct: Dan, Dalek, Liam, Jade, Harry, Oliver, Froot, dandy*
FKA twigs (half-marks): Bré
Purity Ring: Riser
The Orb: Pete
no answer: Spadam, Rollo, Theo, Sarah, Chez, Jacob, Dobbo

From one electronic song to the next. FKA twigs is a very interesting and creative artist who I randomly decided to check out back in 2014 cos I kept noticing on my last.fm that everybody was listening to this song called ‘Two Weeks’ and I was curious. I downloaded the LP1 album and was hooked from the beginning. I found the “broken sounding” beats, synths and vocals throughout the album very intriguing and it made me a fan. ‘Two Weeks’ is one of her more well-known tracks.

The Orb is an interesting guess here from Pete – I’ve been meaning to check out more of their work for years! And we have our first half mark guess from Bré, who recognized the artist but wasn’t sure of the song. Purity Ring isn't a bad guess either!

Just got home, thank you for waiting for me Mattias! laugh.gif <3

I think the only Goldfrapp songs I'd be able to recognise are 'A&E' and 'Ooh La La' so not kicking myself over that one. Yay FKA Twigs *.* I really need to check out more of her music because I love 'Two Weeks'.

3. banks – beggin for thread

Released: 2014
Album: Goddess
UK Singles Chart: N/A

Correct: Dan, Dalek, Liam, Oliver, Riser, Froot, dandy*
Susanne Sundfør: Jade
Jean Michel Jarre: Pete
no answer: Spadam, Harry, Rollo, Theo, Bré, Sarah, Chez, Jacob, Dobbo

I bet y’all were beggin all week for THIS thread basil.gif ...I would show myself out after that joke but I kinda gotta present the rest of these results so unfortunately I can’t.

BANKS is an artist that I’ve been quite excited about for the past couple of years. This is from the stunning debut album ‘Goddess’ (second album ‘The Altar’ was released last year). To me she’s not just a musical artist but also a visual artist. Some of her videos are absolutely aesthetically stunning (my personal favourite is probably the somewhat twisted 'f*** With Myself'). It’s not just about what other video directors bring to her videos, it’s also what she herself brings to them that adds magic.

A couple of interesting wrong guesses here, one being an artist (Susanne Sundfør) who I should probably check out further someday and Jean Michel Jarre who is considered one of the pioneers of electronic music!

At this point I was thinking every answer would have the corresponding question number in its title!

Banks is another artist that I feel like I should check out more of based on what I know. 'Gemini Feed' is lush.

One of my artist guesses to be right at some point please laugh.gif

4. grimes – genesis

Released: 2012
Album: Visions
UK Singles Chart: N/A

Correct: Dalek, Liam, Oliver, dandy*
Grimes (half-marks): Jade, Pete, Bré
Stranger Things Soundtrack: Dan
Kate Bush: Harry
Kraftwerk: Rollo
Björk: Riser, Chez
Owl City: Froot
no answer: Spadam, Theo, Sarah, Jacob, Dobbo

Visions was one of the first albums I downloaded off iTunes. And what a magical album that is. ‘Genesis’ has a very recognizable, otherworldly intro that several of you indeed did recognize. Three people also made a stab at the artist and were correct. I did check if this was on the Stranger Things Soundtrack and was briefly considering giving half a point in that case, but it doesn’t seem to have been. Froot guesses Owl City again tongue.gif (Will Owl City be included in this? Stay tuned to find out wink.gif)

Ooh a lucky artist guess already wub.gif I think I have only heard 'Genesis' once before on plug.dj ages ago. I am all over 'Art Angels' but I don't know much of her stuff prior to that except 'Go' ohmy.gif so yeah I must have identified her general sound I guess.

5. lorn – acid rain

Released: 2015
EP: The Maze to Nowhere, part 2
UK Singles Chart: N/A

Correct: Dan, Dalek, Liam, Jade, Oliver, Bré, dandy*, Chez
Fraunhofer Diffraction – Fate: Riser
Owl City: Froot
Burial: Pete
no answer: Spadam, Harry, Rollo, Theo, Sarah, Jacob, Dobbo

This was entered into the Buzzjack Song Contest (by Republic of Adonia) near the end of last year. It came 24th out of 42 in the final. I knew one other Lorn song before (‘Cherry Moon’) and had it briefly as a potential for the contest, but arguably this ‘Acid Rain’ song ended up being even better and it was a brilliant discovery for me. The video is… well, quite freaky but potentially moving and thought-provoking (judging also from the discussions in the comments section on YouTube). Interesting lil track.

Riser guessed the Aeroche BJSC winner, Fraunhofer Diffraction – Fate, and also did mention that it could be something else from BJSC but I couldn’t really give points for that, sorry sad.gif
