you may be aware that Australia have had a referendum recently for the legalisation of same sex marriage, the result of that will be revealed tonight at 11PM GMT. worth noting that it is not legally binding but the government are likely to go with what the people have voted.

the polls predict a 63% Yes vote, and if it is Yes then it should be legalised by Christmas.

Another country where you would have assumed they'd already got their act together on the issue if you didn't know anything about their government (like Germany until very recently). Good to hopefully see further progress on this anyway of course.

I'm really hoping this happens, it seems so BIZARRE to me that a country like Australia is still sleeping on this. My gut feeling is saying the polls will have it right but then looking at the results of political votes this year I'm scared to get my hopes up sad.gif

I hope for (and I feel like it will be) an easy win for 'Yes' just like with Ireland!

I don’t know Australia’s history that well but if Ireland voted yes, any Western country should be voting yes with ease.

Geographically, Australia is definitely not western laugh.gif (from the Greenwich meridian at least).
