*BRAND NEW NUMBER ONE* - King Krule “Dum Surfer”

Brief Commentary~

Anne Erin "Annie" Clark aka St. Vincent is cruelly locked out of the #1 this week after what seemed like an almost inevitable ascendency to pole position with “Los Ageless” after climbing to #2 last week; in the event she fails to surpass the recent 7-week chart champ from Southend-On-Sea's The Horrors (“Something To Remember Me By” who themselves are deposed and decline 1-2 on their 12th charting week) - she does however match her highest ever peak (#2) with “Digital Witness” in March 2014, that unlucky runner-up was blocked from the penthouse by debut Young Fathers hit “Get Up” who incidentally returned in emphatic style last week with the highest debut of 2017, and highest debut since Foals launched in at #21 back in June 2015. “Lord” their new single from an as-yet untitled third LP sprints 23-12.

The new number 1 - the seventeenth of 2017 - comes from another British artist - namely 23 year-old Archy Ivan Marshall, aka King Krule. Marshall's 3rd LP The Ooz was released last month and the second single taken from it “Dum Surfer” has moved swiftly 37-25-15-4-1 to give him his first number 1 hit on the DB chart. He has strong competition in the Top 10 however, from the aforementioned St. Vincent but also Superorganism who leap 8-4 with their incredibly addictive debut T10 hit “Something For Your M.I.N.D.”, Django Django with a fourth T10 in “Tic Tac Toe” (up 10-6) and new Top 10 entrants for MGMT (their first Top 10 for well over 7 years) and Jus Now & Dismantle with “Little Dark Age” 15-8 and “Spotie” 14-9. “Spotie” remains a white label instrumental for the time being but continues to receive strong club play and evening airplay from Radio 1 and looks set to be a big hit over the late autumn period.

Six new entries break the chart including the highest from Karin Elisabeth Dreijer, one half of eclectic electronic duo The Knife - currently recording solo as Fever Ray with the energetic “To The Moon And Back” in at 35. This week's biggest climber is from Charlotte Gainsbourg and the brilliant “Deadly Valentine” which catapults sixteen places from 36-20.

Full chart below and as ever thank you for reading and I welcome any comments/suggestions of new music to check out! : )
