Chart Commentary

There's just no stopping Rita Ora, as Anywhere spends a fourth consecutive week at the top of my chart this week. It now surpasses Harry Styles' Sign of the Times and Louis Tomlinson's Back to You to claim the title of longest running #1 of 2017, and interestingly, it's actually the longest running #1 since Frans' If I Were Sorry in March 2016, when it spent four consecutive weeks at the top and later, a fifth week in May. It's comfortably Rita's best run at #1, as despite five previous chart toppers, none have spent longer than a single week at #1.

Aside from those mentioned later in this post, we have a new personal best for Mr Eazi, and chart debuts from HRVY and The Voice UK 2016's runner-up Jolan (the sixth Voice contestant to make my chart, joining Becky Hill, Leah McFall, Christina Marie and Joe & Jake, who charted as a duo).

Jumping up six places to #2 are Clean Bandit, who score their fifth top 5 hit with I Miss You. The track debuted at #7 two weeks ago, before dropping to #8 last week, so it looked unlikely to climb anywhere near the #1 peaks of their last three hits Tears, Rockabye and Symphony. However, it gets much closer this week, giving featured artist Julia Michaels a new personal best, outdoing #3 hit Uh Huh from earlier this year.

Clean Bandit
2014 24 Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne) | 4 | 27-29-37-37-X-31-24-36-X (7 non-consecutive weeks)
2014 15 Extraordinary (feat. Sharna Bass) | 5 | 18-17-15-19-29-X (5 weeks)
2015 05 Stronger | 8 | 5-9-15-19-13-17-20-20-23-25-25-29-31-33-31-X (15 weeks)
2016 01 Tears (feat. Louisa Johnson) | 1 | 2-1-2-3-3-8-9-9-13-18-18-25-32-39-X (14 weeks)
2016 01 Rockabye (feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie) | 2 | 27-1-2-2-4-7-9-13-20-21-21-23-35-X (13 weeks)
2017 01 Symphony (feat. Zara Larsson) | 3 | 18-3-1-3-5-7-12-17-23-35-X (10 weeks)
2017 23 Disconnect (Clean Bandit & Marina and the Diamonds) | PS | 23-X (1 week)
2017 02 I Miss You (feat. Julia Michaels) | 4 | 7-8-2-... (3+ weeks)

Julia Michaels
2017 15 Issues | 1 | 25-39-X-35-27-17-15-20-28-34-X (9 non-consecutive weeks)
2017 03 Uh Huh | 2 | 3-4-7-12-20-28-38-X (7 weeks)
2017 02 I Miss You (Clean Bandit feat. Julia Michaels) | FEAT | 7-8-2-... (3+ weeks)

This week's highest new entry comes from Norwegian popstar Alexandru Grindvoll. This is Alexandru's debut single, but not his first appearance in my chart, as he used to be part of Norwegian boyband Suite 16, who took part in Norway's Eurovision selection Melodi Grand Prix in 2016. The group achieved three top 40 hits with their original line-up in my chart, most notably their MGP track Anna-Lee, which charted at #5, comfortably their biggest hit. However, Alexandru departed the group to make solo music. Suite 16 are still ongoing, and charted earlier this year with new single On My Own, but Alexandru's Sellotape has outpeaked all of their singles, with or without his involvement.

Suite 16
2014 15 Stupid Lovesong | NAS | 15-30-X (2 weeks)
2016 05 Anna-Lee | NAS | 5-8-9-12-20-27-33-38-X (8 weeks)
2016 40 All That I Need | NAS | 40-X (1 week)
2017 38 On Our Own | NAS | 39-38-X (2 weeks)

Alexandru
2017 04 Sellotape | 1 | 4-... (1+ weeks)

Simon Cowell's new boyband PRETTYMUCH got off to a fantastic start in my chart with debut single Would You Mind, an eventual #5 hit and one of the longest runners of the year. Follow-up Teacher failed to reach the same heights, peaking only at #34 and disappearing after one week. Thankfully, they're back on form with new track Open Arms, which debuted at #12 two weeks ago and climbs into the top 10 at #8 this week.

PRETTYMUCH
2017 05 Would You Mind | 1 | 15-17-12-14-20-19-13-10-5-8-13-18-28-35-39-X (15 weeks)
2017 35 Teacher | 2 | 35-X (1 week)
2017 08 Open Arms | 3 | 12-12-8-... (3+ weeks)

A new Taylor Swift album is always an event week on my chart, with both Red and 1989 spawning several album track entries in my singles chart in their opening week. Sixth album reputation is no different, and gives Taylor six concurrent entries, five of which did not feature in last week's chart. 1989 also had six entries in its first full week, while Red had five (although it's worth noting my chart was a top 30 when Red came out). It's hard to pinpoint when one artist had so many entries in one of my weekly charts (particularly with Photobucket making my chart archive a nightmare), but it's safe to say it hasn't happened this year. The highest of Taylor's tracks is This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, new in at #13, just one spot ahead of Call It What You Want, which debuted at #10 last week as an instant grat.

In the album chart, reputation jumps one spot to claim an easy fourth #1 for Taylor. She now ties with One Direction for the most #1 albums in my chart, although a large group of artists are just one spot behind on three #1 albums (Cody Simpson, Delta Goodrem, Fifth Harmony, Hunter Hayes, Justin Bieber, The Saturdays, The Vamps, Tom Odell and Ulrik Munther).

Hey Joseph!
It's nice to see Rita Ora at #1 in your chart! Fun fact: Recently she performed on the blind auditions of a german casting show as a contestant! I left a link on my new chart, if you're interested to watch it!
I also like "I Miss You" at #2, easily the best Julia Michaels song in my opinion!
I'm happy that "Kiwi" is your greatest gainer!
Great chart overall!

17. Jason Derulo feat. French Montana - Tip Toe - 17- Another great song, I know he's not as successful as he once was but he still knows how to knock out a catchy hook!
19. Selena Gomez & Marshmello - Wolves - 9-11-19-
21. Taylor Swift - Getaway Car - 21- One of the few tracks on the album I liked on first listen, found most of it pretty mediocre tbh unsure.gif
