Chag Sameach to all my fellow Jewish and none Jewish Buzzjackers! cheer.gif

How are you celebrating the Festival of Lights?

We got a new Hanukiah this year to go with the one which we've had for as long as I can remember - I'll post a pic later.

Happy Hannukah to the Buzzjackers that celebrate including yourself!

I don't celebrate it, but have just listened to 'Hanukkah, O Hanukkah' which is a tune so there's my contribution x

I honestly do not know. Sometimes there's a C at the beginning as well!

Think it's usually spelt as Hanukkah but it's a Hebrew word so can be transliterated loads of different ways. x

Have a good one Theo! (I don't think I knew that you celebrated it ;o)

One similarity between Hanukkah and Christmas is the significance of the candelabra. For Christmas there is the candle bridge often displayed in house windows (most of those are LED ones though) and for Hanukkah, the Menorah.

I don't know why the candle has such significance to religious festivals! I guess fire epitomised by the candle represents a higher power.

Anyway Happy Hanukkah Theo and other Buzzjackers who celebrate it!

Thanks! My dad is Jewish but we have always celebrated Hanukkah and Passover alongside Christmas and Easter respectively.

It's the light which is significant, representing the oil which burned brighter after 8 days. Thanks.

I think when I was younger we used to receive a couple of gifts but now we just light the candles and play dreidel.
