A large amount of Christmas songs are currently re-entering the charts, but unlike these, which festive anthems do you think deserve more attention these days?

Here are a few under-appreciated novelty and serious faves of mine

glasvegas - a snowflake fell (and it felt like a kiss)

cheeky girls - have a cheeky christmas

mike oldfield - in dulci jubilo

bo selecta - proper crimbo

Those bottom three sometimes get played on the music channels if it's a really long countdown but frankly not enough in general over the festive period tbh.

Discuss away x

Christmas Time (Dinet Let the Bells End) is an ANTHEM, but even thr OCC seem to forget it is the second biggest modern anthem after Mariah!!

I would say that In Dulce Jubilo is a Christmas classic, as I do hear it every Christmas without fail, and it's on a lot of the major Christmas compilations. Plus, it's a really great song.

Other songs that I would like to be seen as Christmas classics, but aren't, are -

Waterbabies - Under The Tree: went top 40, but I rarely hear it get played. A pity, as it's a lovely song -

Girls Aloud - Not Tonight, Santa.

Given how many great songs they had, I'm surprised that they never tried to go for the Christmas #1 with a Christmassy single. They did record quite a few, with "Not Tonight Santa" being an absolute joy. Perhaps the GA loons can orchestrate a campaign next year?

Shameless plug, but I've created a Spotify playlist of alternative Christmas songs that I think should get a greater airing each year, which I've included here. I'll probably end up swiping a few suggestions from here for the playlist too.

Hmm I suppose that's true, I have actually heard it in McDonalds of all places this month laugh.gif it just doesn't seem to be on any of the festive Spotify playlists and hasn't come close to re-entering the top 40 as far as I'm aware - it should as it is so great *.* I guess it is just one of those that is known but that I wish was a big hitter like the current crop in the chart. Same with Greg Lake - 'I Believe In Father Christmas'.

Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas just never feels AS appreciated as it should be (indeed, it isn't even top 100 in the UK when a shitload of other Christmas songs are sad.gif), I still do hear it on the radio a lot and it is obvs still well known, but it should really be right up there with the Pogues as one of the most popular 'serious' Christmas songs.

Walking in the Air by Nightwish. It has much more emotion and passion in it than the original and is way better than the original (which I do also like). It is one of my favourite songs on my Christmas playlist.

Echo the love for In Dulci Jubilo, the jolliest piece of music ever created.

Also need more love for Jona Lewie's Stop The Cavalry, in my top 3 xmas songs that.

And a shout out to Steeleye Span's 'Gaudete' - now to see a Latin acapella song back in the UK top 40 nowadays would be something quite spectacular...
