Here are the Christmas songs I've discovered that can be classed as de facto. Additions are welcome.

East 17 - Stay Another Day
Spice Girls - 2 Become 1
S Club 7 - Never Had a Dream Come True
St Winifred's Choir - There's No One Quite Like Grandma
Ed Sheeran - Perfect
Frankie Goes To Hollywood/Gabrielle Aplin - The Power Of Love
Abba/Westlife - I Have a Dream
Girls Aloud - See The Day
Sugababes - Too Lost In You
Mumford and Sons - Winter Winds
Various - Hallelujah
Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know
Steps - Heartbeat
Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hynmal

Girls Aloud - 'See The Day' and Sugababes - 'Too Lost In You' are further girlgroup examples that have popped up a few times on the music channels in December but don't actually have anything to do with Christmas. They're just both ballads with wintery videos.

I actually find both the Girls Aloud and Sugababes songs very Christmassy, just as I see Stronger as a song for summer. In fact, I only ever listen to the Girls Aloid song at xmas - have very strong Xmas memories of it!!

Vanessa Carlton - Hear the Bells is apparently an existential song rather than a Christmas one, as pounded into my skull repeatedly by Meekul. hithead.gif

(I admit I didn't rly think that one through all the way probably)

The only link to Christmas 'Too Lost In You' has is that it was done for Love Actually which was set at Christmas.

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal is played a lot this time of year, especially recently and I have no recollection of it ever being remotely Christmassy apart from Winter being in the title. It was originally released in the summertime!

Think it's literally just my family but we have 'All Around My Hat' from Steeleye Span on the Christmas playlist every year (alongside their actual Christmas song 'Gaudete')

It has some lyrics that are vaguely Christmassy

QUOTE
Fare thee well cold winter and fare thee well cold frost
Nothing have I gained but my own true love I've lost
I'll sing and I'll be merry when occasion I do see
He's a false deluding young man, let him go, farewell he

Agree with this, its the only time of year I ever see this played on music channels.

Also maybe Mad World by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules. The video featured xmas decoration shapes and it was obviously a famous Xmas No.1, ironically beating a vast number of proper, original xmas songs that year to the top including The Darkness, The Idols, Cliff Richard, Cheeky Girls, Billy Mack, Bo Selecta etc...not sure what was in the water that year laugh.gif

In recent years,Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit seems to have become a Christmas song just because of its Disneyesque orchestral sound. It was a hit in December 1988 but has nothing to do with Christmas.

I shall continue to listen to this marvellous song (the full-length version) whenever I want. It is definitely not a Christmas song.

2003 was basically the last normal Christmas chart before pop idol/ XF ruined the chart!
