So with 2017 well and truly behind us forever and since this is usually a time of reflection, which albums from 2017 to you really connect with? We’re there any that particularly disappointed you?

I bought 9 albums released in 2017 last year (and many more from previous years) and this is how I would rank them.

9) Maroon 5-Red Pill Blues. My biggest disappointment. What Lovers Do was such a bop and got me proper excited but there isn’t anything nearly as good on this album. It’s easily and by far the worst album they’ve ever done. Go ba old Skool please.

8) The Corrs-Jupiter Calling. This is back to basics for them. A lovely listen but nothing on White Light.

7) Royal Blood-How Did We Get So Dark? This seemed darker than the debut but still a great listen.

6) Rag N Bone Man-Human. On first listen I was sure this would be top 5 for me for the year. Solid debut.

5) The Killers-Wonderful, Wonderful. They’re back and on great form too.

4) Anastacia-Evolution. Such a fantastic album full of many bops. It’s so shit she always goes under the radar these days. Why this didn’t get a full UK release, I’ll never know.

3) Paloma Faith-The Architect. Just edging it, this woman returned on fantastic form. I’m sure this will be played right through 2018 as well.

2) Stereophonics-Scream Above The Sounds. I’m seeing them in June and I can’t wait. This is fast becoming one of my favourites of theirs, feels very personal and the tunes are fantastic.

1) Pink-Beautiful Trauma. Was it going to be anything else? I completely adore this woman despite her making me wait five years for a new album. This is essentially a very Pink album and yet more mature and a little slower than her previous efforts. Her work is always personal to her and there is always something I feel I connect with. Long may she continue being awesome.

My top 30 albums as per my EOY:

1 Declan McKenna - What Do You Think About the Car?
2 Harry Styles - Harry Styles
3 FO&O - FO&O
4 The Vamps - Night & Day (Night Edition)
5 Taylor Swift - reputation
6 Kesha - Rainbow
7 Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa
8 Demi Lovato - Tell Me You Love Me
9 Zara Larsson - So Good
10 Ed Sheeran - ÷

11 Paloma Faith - The Architect
12 Zak Abel - Only When We're Naked
13 The Tide - Young Love
14 Lorde - Melodrama
15 Katy Perry - Witness
16 Fifth Harmony - Fifth Harmony
17 P!nk - Beautiful Trauma
18 Lewis Watson - midnight
19 Niall Horan - Flicker
20 Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life

21 Michael Schulte - Hold the Rhythm
22 Sofia Reyes - Louder!
23 Tove Lo - BLUE LIPS (lady wood phase II)
24 The Chainsmokers - Memories… Do Not Open
25 Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel
26 Isaiah - Isaiah
27 Jake Bugg - Hearts That Strain
28 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human
29 Betty Who - The Valley
30 Nathan Sykes - Unfinished Business

I'd say it's the top 18 or so that I particularly liked, and that top 10 is very very strong. Declan's album came out of nowhere, I didn't expect to enjoy it so much and that's my favourite thing about music - when something hits you out of nowhere. Harry's album was good as I knew it would be, but not all of it is to my taste so Declan got the edge.

Melodrama (Lorde), So Good (Zara Larsson) & Blue Lips (Tove Lo) All spring to mind but I’m sure I’ve missed a load others.

Melodrama is my favourite album of all time.

Fifth Harmony's was a pleasant surprise and I'd put it on par if not better than 7/27. I also enjoyed Kelly Clarkson - Meaning of Life, Paloma Faith - The Architect (it's finally hit me and is fantastic) and Una Healy - The Waiting Game. All of which had some fantastic moments and probably some of their best work in their careers. Least fave albums of the last year would have to go to Zara Larsson - So Good, Lorde - Melodrama and Katy Perry - Witness. They all had good singles but for Lorde the rest of the album isn't accessible as Green Light (which happens to be in my top faves of 2017) and Katy's production wasn't there.

I've been even worse with listening to albums than ever this year, listened to a grand total of 3 2017 releases so far laugh.gif (will hear a 4th soon as I'll finally hear Kendrick Lamar's album ahead of going to see him live in February lol). Of the three I've listened to...

1. Lorde - Melodrama
2. The xx - I See You
3. alt-J - RELAXER

They're all brilliant, alt-J are juuust behind The xx because it's such a short album and does have one dud song on it. Lorde is an easy fave though ofc. <3

~ ~ ~ My Top 3 ~ ~ ~

03 Paramore - After Laughter
A superb comeback from one of my favourite bands. Hayley Williams vocals get better and better album after album and After Laughter is certainly no exception. The slightly 80’s inspired album talks heavily about themes such as depression and hard times whilst having an upbeat production most of the way through. My description isn’t the best but I highly recommend this album to everyone. Hard Times, Rose-Coloured Boy, and Fake Happy are amazing heart.gif

02 Gorillaz - Humanz
Humanz is a brilliant album from Gorillaz, a bit of a change in sound from previous albums but it’s also very much Gorillaz at heart. The singles released early in the year rose my hype above the clouds and the album was completely amazing when it finally came. Saturnz Barz remains one of my favourite songs of 2017, whilst others such as Ascension, The Apprentice, Strobelite, and Andromeda (and most of the rest of the album) are just as strong. It’s very political, although Damon made a good choice in beeping out “Obama” and “Trump” which help this not getting old tongue.gif

01 The Killers - Wonderful Wonderful
An absolute stunner all the way through. The Man & Run For Cover are both 11/10 moments and the rest of the album does not disappoint. I wasn’t expecting much from The Killers after the last album didn’t grip me so much, but as soon as The Man was released I knew I was going to love this. The Man is also in my top most played songs of the year wub.gif

Other albums I’ve really enjoyed this year:
Portugal. The Man - Woodstock
Dia Lipa - Dua Lipa
Liam Gallagher - As You Were
Taylor Swift - Reputation
Eminem - Revival
Blossoms - Blossoms
Royal Blood - How Did We Get So Dark?
Lorde - Melodrama

I've been distracted with other matters in 2017 which has prevented me from really sinking into multiple listens of albums, even ones I've bought. Some standouts for me:

BROCKHAMPTON - SATURATION I, II & III (fantastic salvo of releases from a group who really should be more popular than they are)
Gang Of Youths - Go Farther In Lightness (Arguably the biggest band in Australia at the moment. Huge sweeping arrangements and the makings of a classic rock album)
JAY-Z - 4:44 (Unexpected return to form with Jay at his most vulnerable to date)
Jess Locke - Universe (nicely written lo-fi garage rock)
Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. (DUH.)
Laura Marling - Semper Femina (Perhaps her most consistently strong album to date)
The National - Sleep Well Beast (Huge fan, they always deliver the goods)
Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 3 (Huge fan, they always deliver the goods)
SZA - Ctrl (Very easy to see why she's blowing up now)
Tired Lion - Dumb Days (Great, energetic rock album)
Wolf Alice - Visions Of A Life (Eclectic as always, packed with great tunes as always)

Doing my best to catch up though, have already listened to 14 albums I missed in 2017 so far this year.

alt-j - Relaxer
Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa
Gorillaz - Humanz
Kelela - Take Me Apart
Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life
Lorde - Melodrama
The xx - I See You

'I See You' is my favourite of 2017 so albums peaked quite early for me last year kink.gif I'm such a flop Kendrick fan as I still need to hear DAMN, top of the list!
