Dexton's Top 40 (16/01/2017) (Week 36)
The man of the woods faces competition from the woman of havana! The third chart week of the year dawns upon us and gives Justin Timberlake a second week at the Top, with heavy (but beatable) competition from Camila Cabello and Jax Jones. Justin's FutureSex/LoveSound-like single Filthy manages another week at #1, fast becoming my favourite song of 2018 so far and only building further onto my hype for his album. With Man Of The Woods coming just two & a half weeks away, it's possible that the artist to take #1 from Justin may just be Justin himself! This week Camila Cabello released her self-titled debut album, Camila, to much success following the worldwide smashing of Havana. Camila follows that sound through her album, yet sounds fresh on every track present. Camila grabs both her 3rd & 4th Top 5 hits on my chart with She Loves Control at #2, and Real Friends climbing to #4. Jax Jones' Breathe featuring Ina Wroldsen falls to #3, and RAYE's Decline featuring Mr Eazi falls to #5. Craig David's I Know You spent a single week at #1 in my chart not along ago and falls out of the Top 5 for a first time this week (4-6) however with his highly anticipated album, The Time Is Now, set to release next Friday, I Know You is looking to have decent longevity in my chart. Similarly, former #1 Never Be The Same returns to the Top 10 from #19. Also returning to the Top 10 this week, 33 weeks since it was last there, is Imagine Dragons' Whatever It Takes repeaking at #9. Paramore's Fake Happy falls to #8, whilst Halsey earns her second Top 10 single with Bad At Love (24-10). This weeks 'big' climbers are Dua Lipa's IDGAF (15-11), Jason Derulo's Tip Toe featuring French Montana (17-16), Diplo's Get It Right featuring MØ (30-22), Nightcrawlers x John Reid's Push The Feeling featuring Big Narstie (32-25), PNAU's Go Bang (28-27), Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso's Dreamer featuring Trevor Guthrie (40-29), Clean Bandit's I Miss You featuring Julia Michaels (36-31), and Bruno Mars' Finesse featuring Cardi B (39-38). I Miss You saves itself from dropping out this week with fellow dance hits Cola & All Falls Down via a newly released remix featuring Yungen. On paper it sounds whack, but I actually like what Yungen brings to the track and has somewhat revived it for me after becoming a bit bored of it recently Still, bring on the next Clean Bandit single! The four remaining new entries come from the likes of Sigrid, Fall Out Boy, Ramz, and The Vaccines. Talk about variety. Sigrid is the BBC's Sound of 2018 winner, a well deserving win for her that should (and by the looks of UK iTunes, is) further launching her career. She previously charted her long ago with Don't Kill My Vibe, and earns her second Top 20 hit this week with Strangers. Sigrid's Don't Kill My Vibe EP also enters the album chart at #3 as I rediscover her discography Ramz enters at #39 with Barking, The Vaccines enter at #40 with I Can't Quit, and Fall Out Boy enter at #30 with Hold Me Tight Or Don't. Camila Cabello (this still won't be the last time I talk about her, sorry!) also re-enters this week with her chart-topping Havana featuring Young Thug at #19. Havana debuted on my chart the week it released at #1 but quickly (and decievingly) fell quickly. Despite the misleading chart run, Havana has been prominent in my playlists for the past few months and is actually my 6th most played song of the past 12 months! She is out-played by the likes of Avicii (WY), Dua Lipa, Portugal. The Man, Avicii (LT), and Imagine Dragons. Now to talk about Camila Cabello again. If you think this is too much talk of a single artist, just you wait until JT drops Man Of The Woods Camila's Camila obviously debuts at #1 in my album chart boasting brilliant songs such as Havana and Never Be The Same. Other album tracks I highly recommend are: She Loves Control, Inside Out, Into Me, and Real Friends. I mean, it's a 10-track album, you may as well just listen to it all Eminem's Revival falls to #2 and Portugal. The Man's Woodstock falls to #4, whilst Sigrid's Don't Kill My Vibe EP enters at #3. I never really got into Plot Twist when it was released and has been a bit of a slow burner for me since then, however it really shines on this EP and is a lovely single The Killers just can't stay away from the Top 5 long enough, crawling back up to #5. An album track I've really been digging lately is Tyson vs Douglas, although the album is choc-a-block with brilliant songs. Their comeback single, The Man, is in my all-time Top 5 The Killers tracks already and is actually one of the songs I voted for in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2017. The results of which will be broadcast next Saturday on the 27th, so look out for some new entries following that! The rest you can read yourself Thanks for reading! Hi Dexton!
Nice to see Strangers enter so high - hope it can go Top 10 both here and officially! Hold Me Tight Or Don't is certainly a change of style for FOB but I really like it - much more than Young & Menace! Nice to see Barking enter also - wonder if it'll get to #1 officially? Great chart |

Nice to see Sigrid debut on the single and album charts! I also like the debuts of Camila on the single and album charts! Great chart overall! Hi sergej! Sigrid really is brilliant isn't she (trying not to jump on the current Sigrid band wagon) Camila is a similar case Although I can safely say I've been loving Camila for a long time now, with both Crying In The Club (Top 20) and Havana (#1) being big here Thanks for commenting! Hi Dexton! Nice to see Strangers enter so high - hope it can go Top 10 both here and officially! Hold Me Tight Or Don't is certainly a change of style for FOB but I really like it - much more than Young & Menace! Nice to see Barking enter also - wonder if it'll get to #1 officially? Great chart Hi Pete! Strangers should get there next week! She would be higher this week if not for me loving all the new releases I really hope she sneaks into the official Top 10 this week, if only her streams were higher! I agree It's not really that much of a Fall Out Boy song, but I prefer it greatly to Young and Menace. Shame their album was mostly disappointing though Barking looking likely to be blocked from #1 by Drake I called it! I said Barking would be this years Unforgettable! Thanks for commenting! |
