General dining etiquette / table manners were drummed into me as I was growing up. But... do you guys still eat dinner at a table more often than not? This may seem a bit random but I am intrigued to know if this is becoming a bit old fashioned, and if people prefer to take their food to their room to eat on a tray, or in front of the TV on the sofa or whatnot.

I'd say that yes, my family still make a big deal of us all eating at the table together. The only exceptions are usually takeaways that we eat on the sofa or if I eat alone then I will usually just make myself food to eat in the front room, or in my own room. So my vote goes to 'yes' as most meals will be at the table.

We don’t have a dinner table because our living room was also either mine or my mums bedroom. We didn’t rlly have people over for proper meals so never noticed a problem

I don't because the table has the iMac on it and no room for anything else. laugh.gif

I tend to eat off the coffee table while sat on the sofa. Don't exactly have much room or furniture in my tiny house so no other real options

I do when I visit my parents but I live alone so there’s little point. Usually just eat in front of the tv.

I usually eat at the table, as in, I'm sitting in front of the table, but I do tend to watch stuff during it :') Which isn't very good cos apparently it's better to be mindful about eating as you're doing it. It sure feels good sometimes to watch something at the same time though. I live alone now so I eat mostly on my own, unless I've someone over or if I've gone back to my mum's.

When I eat in a restaurant or during some get-together, I tend to be really careful of my table manners and how I eat, cos I kinda had that drilled into me when I was younger I think haha...

nah barely ever eat at the table, literally just at christmas. Usually just eat in the living room or in my room, or I'll sit on the floor and eat at the coffee table if I'm feeling dangerous

I don't because there's no space in my flat for a dining table, I usually sit at my desk or just with it on my knee. If my parents are over we'll use my coffee table though but I don't tend to have people round for meals anyway so it's fine. At my mum and dad's they have a dining room but they always have their laptops set up on that table with so much other shite that we only ever use it as a dining table at christmas basically. They like to eat in front of the TV so we usually have dinner in the living room, they'll use a tray on their knee or the coffee table. we have a tiny fold out table that I use if I'm down :')

I live with my parents and they're quite keen on table meals so usually yes. Means we all get to have a chat about the day even if only for a short while.

Depends, at uni it just depends as sually the table will be full of everyone's crap strewn over it, plus we just eat separately whenever and I feeel odd eating on my own at the table (although our living room and kіtchen is all open plan so you can still sit and see the TV and join in with the living room) so I just sit in the main living room area on a chair or sth, although if we have something together (normally a roast) we do always sit at the table.

At home we don't have a dining table so just sit at the sofa.

Yes like Jade I've always been brought up to eat at the dinner table. In addition, we only start to eat whenever everyone is at the dinner table and all sat together. Furthermore it's also necessary that whenever you were called due to dinner being ready, you come down asap for it and not keep people waiting or face the wrath of being yelled at!

I'd say predominantly yes, most of my lunches and dinners are at the dining room table with at least my dad if not the whole family. But I never eat there if I'm by myself, would rather eat in front of the TV or at my computer desk.

nope. we all do separate things with our lives so there's no point essentially wasting half an hour of the day every day. we've got a dining table that seats like, 6, but it hasn't been used in months laugh.gif

If I am on the close at work I usually take dinner up to my bed and eat it whilst watching Netflix on my tv. My parents are usually getting ready for bed or lounging around at 10pm at night so I'd feel awkward sitting having a meal
